Preference: Experience with adults with developmental disabilities.
Summary Description:
Assist Occupational Therapist in development and implementation of appropriate therapy/programming.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with Individuals and Small Groups, per ISPs, to Develop Fine/Sensory/Oral Motor Skills and Independent Living/ Health/Hygiene/Social Skills.
- Provide occupational therapy treatment to individuals, under direct supervision of the Registered Occupational Therapist, as needed and as prescribed by personal physicians, and document the same.
- Assist in meal preparation and implementation of feeding strategies for individuals.
- Assist in procurement and fabrication of equipment.
- Consult with staff concerning rehabilitation equipment, techniques and procedures as needed.
- Supervise occupational therapy interns.
- Participate in Interdisciplinary Team meetings.
- Upkeep of written records as assigned.
- Provide case management as needed.
- Implement behavior plans, including physical interventions when needed.
- Develop and/or conduct individual and/or group trainings for agency staff in occupational therapy procedures & related standards, as assigned, under supervision or the OTR.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor, treating all recipients, staff, and families as valued adults.
- Support program participants’ right to express their religious affiliations and cultural traditions through preferred and relevant activities. Support diversity of individuals served through respect of religious preferences and/or cultural backgrounds.
- Assist with transfer, toileting, and feeding individuals, as necessary, consistent with Health, Safety, and Dignity, and reporting all issues to the Director.
Possible Other Duties:
15. Transport individuals in own car or agency vehicle for community integration and training activities, or in an emergency.
