JOB TITLE: GROUP FITNESS YOGA INSTRUCTOR – RECREATION DEPARTMENT
CLASSIFICATION: PART-TIME – NON EXEMPT
SUPERVISOR: HEALTH & FITNESS MANAGER
HOURS: MONDAY 9:15 – 10:15 AM, MONDAY 10:30 – 11:30 AM & FRIDAY 10:30 – 11:30 AM, SUB FOR REGULARLY SCHEDULED YOGA CLASSES CURRENTLY SCHEDULED
PAY RANGE: Starts at $20.00/hour
POSITION SUMMARY: The Yoga Instructor delivers an empowering, motivational, engaging, educational and professional yoga experience to ensure a successful yoga practice for patrons that keeps them motivated and inspired. The Yoga Instructor is responsible for teaching a balanced yoga class for participants of all fitness levels and abilities, cueing progressions and regressions, and educating patrons on appropriate breathing principles and safe transitioning techniques. The Yoga Instructor is responsible for creating, implementing the proper format, demonstrating and reinforcing proper form or fitness classes using energetic, positive, motivating techniques. The position of Cycle Instructor is a part-time position under the direct supervision of the Health & Fitness Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and implement the proper class plan for the type of yoga being taught; for example, All Levels Yoga, Yoga 2, Chair Yoga and Restorative Yoga
- Assist with development of marketing strategies, promotional materials, prepare and review brochure copy for fitness programs, and promote class on personal social media and/or word of mouth
- Provide leadership and guidance to participants regarding proper form and skill
- Arrive for class 15 minutes early to prepare/review rosters, set up and/or music, answer participant questions and learn about limitations, develop rapport and relationships with participants
- Stay 15 minutes after class to clean up, answer participant questions and motivate participants to return
- Teach all classes to the ability level of the participants
- Maintain a professional manner through proper attire, attitude and aptitude
- Communicate with the participants, fitness desk and manager regarding any changes for the class
- Instructors are required to locate and maintain a sub approved by the manager
- Immediately report any problems or repairs of equipment to the Fitness Manager
- Request supplies as needed for class with adequate allowance for timely delivery
- Accurately track attendance of all participants
- Maintain a working knowledge of all general and department safety rules
- Enforce safety rules and improve public and employee knowledge by preventing, confronting and correcting unsafe behavior
- Be prepared to perform CPR or First Aid if required
- Follow all procedures and guidelines as presented in the policy manual
- Attend staff training and risk management sessions
- Maintain current certifications through continuing education
SAFETY AND RISK MANAGEMENT:
- Uphold safety and risk management strategies in support of and compliance with Park District policies, procedures, ordinances and practices
- Familiarity with and effective implementation of the Employee Safety Manual, Emergency Response Plan, and Crisis Management Plan
- Utilize the provided equipment to assist in injury prevention and damage to personal property
- Attend professional educational and safety trainings
- Assist with emergency procedures and building evaluation
- Utilize Personal Protective Equipment when performing duties, based on job tasks
- Correct unsafe conditions and/or report them to supervisor
- Promptly report hazardous conditions, accidents and injuries to supervisor
- Complete incident/accident report forms and promptly forward them to supervisor
- Perform any other duties, as assigned by Health & Fitness Manager
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Regularly required to talk, hear or read
- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit and use hands to assist and demonstrate
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; and over 30 pounds with assistance
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception

- May be exposed to chemicals and cleaning materials
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- Indoor environmental conditions will include lighting, temperature and loud music

- Must be able to respond to and handle behaviors in a positive appropriate manner
- Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflicts and make effective decisions under pressure
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma required
- 200 RYT or equivalent
- Must have and maintain current certification in Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid within 3 months of hire
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Yoga Instructor
