The Barrington School District is seeking a dedicated School Nurse for the 2026-27 school year. We are looking for a caring and compassionate professional who thrives in a student-centered environment. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining strict confidentiality. While all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply, pediatric experience is preferred.
Qualifications
- Must possess a valid New Hampshire Registered Nurse (RN) license
- School Nurse Certification through the NHED (selected applicant will need to apply for this credential if not already held)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The school nurse functions in accordance with the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, and the school districts policies and procedures.
STUDENT WELL BEING – To ensure student well being the RN will:
- Assess and treat all illnesses and injuries during the school day
- Provide necessary medications or medical treatments
- Consult with students, parents, teachers, and physicians
- Refer students and families to appropriate resources when additional medical care or evaluation is required
- Assist families in meeting students’ basic needs of food, clothing, and health care by connecting them with community resources
- Provide health screening of all students yearly, including height, weight, hearing, and vision and work with families to follow-up on abnormal findings
- Provide health education to students and families
- Provide education and training to appropriate school personnel for the safe management of specific health conditions throughout the school day as well as during field trips, school-sponsored activities, and athletics
- Provide CPR and First Aid certification training for teachers, staff, and coaches
- Participate in the development and implementation of school wellness, safety, crisis, and emergency preparedness plans

PUBLIC HEALTH – To support public health the RN will:

Review all incoming student records for compliance with NH state immunization and physical examination requirements and work with families to meet these requirements

Coordinate in-school dental education, screening, and referral programs

Coordinate bike helmet distribution programs

Coordinate school district and town employee influenza vaccine clinics

Participate in town and state Emergency Preparedness Plans

Work with the CDC and NH Department of Health and Human Services to disseminate public health alert information and control the spread of communicable disease

Participates as the health expert on Individualized Education Plans
READINESS TO LEARN – To optimize student readiness to learn the RN will:

Develop health plans to safely manage acute and chronic health conditions and disabilities while allowing for maximum participation in all school activities

Promptly recognize and treat ailments that distract from or interfere with students’ ability to learn

Follow-up on absences and work with parents to ensure maximum attendance

Work with parents and school personnel to promote physical, social, and emotional health for all students

Collaborate as a member on a school-wide team to help identify students at risk for physical and psychosocial problems
