TITLE: SCIENCE AND STEM CTE COORDINATOR (BHS)
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have a calm, pleasant demeanor and excellent interpersonal communication skills with various audiences. Multilingual preferred.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as within a team environment.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with students, staff, and community partners.
- High school diploma required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
- Experience using digital systems, spreadsheets, and collaborative tools.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff, students, and external community partners.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Science and STEM CTE Coordinator provides operational and logistical support for science and STEM career pathway programs at Barrington High School, including health sciences, engineering, and agriculture.
This role ensures that laboratory environments, specialized instructional resources, and career-connected learning opportunities are effectively coordinated, maintained, and aligned to program goals. The coordinator collaborates with teachers, administrators, and community partners to support the day-to-day operations of science and STEM CTE programs. Through effective resource management, safety coordination, and program logistics, this role helps sustain high-quality, hands-on learning environments and supports opportunities for students to explore pathways in science, engineering, agriculture, and healthcare careers.
REPORTS TO: Department Head
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Logistics and Coordination
- Coordinate day-to-day operational needs of science and STEM CTE programs
- Manage curriculum materials for the department, including distribution and collection to students
- Maintain program calendars and assist in coordinating department initiatives, events, and student opportunities
- Support planning and logistics for department and STEM CTE events
- Coordinating with the CTE office regarding supply and equipment purchases, including grant-funded items
Laboratory and Equipment Coordination
- Coordinate ordering, distribution, and tracking of laboratory materials and equipment
- Facilitate routine maintenance and vendor service for laboratory and instructional equipment
- Assist with long-term planning related to equipment replacement and resource needs
Student Opportunities and Experiential Learning
- Coordinate logistics for student participation in STEM competitions, career-related events, and academic enrichment opportunities, including field trips
- Support the planning and documentation of field-based learning experiences
- Assist with the coordination of permissions, scheduling, and logistics of off-campus educational experiences
- Assist in organizing, planning, and scheduling to support the student Science & Engineering Teaching Assistant program
Health Sciences Pathway Support
- Support logistics for healthcare-related student experiences such as clinical observations and internship hours, CPR training, drug testing, and guest speakers
Safety and Compliance
- Coordinate regular checks of safety equipment in science laboratories and specialized instructional spaces
- Maintain documentation related to safety inspections and compliance requirements
Data and Resource Management
- Maintain program records related to student participation in science and CTE pathway opportunities, including state testing results and certifications
- Generate regular reports to monitor student achievement, Academic Resource Center attendance, and participation in Science/STEM CTE programs
- Assist with purchasing processes, including purchase orders, budget tracking, and supply management
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide logistical support for department meetings, community partnership meetings, and professional learning activities
Assist with the coordination of substitute coverage for specialized instructional spaces when needed - Support the maintenance of various departmental financial accounts as directed, and prepare check requests, purchase orders, maintenance requests, and other requisitions as needed
- Maintain display cases, bulletin boards, and shared department office spaces to contribute to a positive department
climate and share the department's work with the school community
- Relieve/assist other classified positions as requested.
- Provides support to substitute teachers
- Perform other duties related to the coordination and operation of science and STEM career pathway programs as assigned
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- The nature of this position requires the ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate ethical, professional conduct at all times. Working knowledge of the community and available resources is desirable.
- This position requires regular use of computers and standard office equipment, including copiers, scanners, and digital communication tools. Occasional light lifting (up to 25 pounds) may be required.
