TITLE: SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program
  • Hold or be eligible for Illinois licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Hold appropriate Illinois Professional Educator License and endorsement as required
  • Experience working with individuals ages 3-22, especially within educational settings
  • Knowledge of speech, language, voice, fluency, and pragmatic communication disorders in children and adolescents
  • Knowledge of assessment tools and intervention strategies related to speech and language development
  • Ability to conduct, interpret, and report speech and language evaluations
  • Understanding of developmental milestones related to communication and language acquisition
  • Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and provide consultative support to educational staff
  • Ability to provide staff training and parent education related to speech and language development

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Speech and Language Pathologist provides speech and language services to students ages 3-22 across the district, supporting communication skills necessary for access to the educational environment. The Speech and Language Pathologist may serve as the case manager for students whose primary eligibility is Speech or Language Impairment and may also provide services as a related service provider for students with a variety of disability eligibilities or educational entitlements. Responsibilities may include assessment, direct and consultative therapy, IEP, 504, and MTSS participation, collaboration with staff and families, and professional learning. The position may be itinerant and serve multiple school sites, with assignments adjusted annually based on student needs.

 

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Student Support Services, Principals, and/or designee

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct speech and language evaluations and re-evaluations in accordance with IDEA and Section 504
  • Serve as case manager for students whose primary eligibility is Speech or Language Impairment, including responsibility for IEP development, compliance timelines, documentation, and coordination of the IEP team process
  • Provide speech and language services as a related service provider for students with a variety of disability eligibilities or educational entitlements, including but not limited to students with IEPs under other eligibility categories and students with Section 504 Plans
  • Participate in IEP and 504 meetings, contributing evaluation results, present levels, goal development, service recommendations, and progress monitoring data as appropriate to the student's eligibility and service role
  • Provide direct, consultative, and collaborative speech and language services aligned to student needs, IEP goals, and service delivery models
  • Collaborate with teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families to support generalization of communication goals across instructional and non-instructional settings
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, IEPs, service logs, data collection, and progress reporting in alignment with district procedures and to support Medicaid billing requirements when applicable
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of services through data collection, observations, and formal and informal assessments
  • Develop and manage a flexible schedule across assigned schools or programs based on caseload, service delivery requirements, and student needs
  • Support student transitions (e.g., Early Childhood to Kindergarten, elementary to middle school, middle to high school, and postsecondary planning as applicable) through collaboration and student-centered planning
  • Participate in MTSS and problem-solving team meetings as appropriate
  • Adhere to district policies and applicable laws and regulations, including IDEA, ADA, Section 504, and ISBE requirements
  • Attend staff meetings, professional development, and district-required trainings
  • Provide consultation, coaching, and training to staff and families related to speech and language development, communication strategies, and assistive supports when appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration, consistent with the scope of the role

 

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work in various instructional and therapeutic environments within district buildings
  • Must have the ability to travel between multiple school buildings within the district as required
  • Requires schedule flexibility and ability to adapt to caseload, location, or service delivery changes as student needs evolve
