TITLE: BUILDING AUTOMATION SPECIALIST



 LOCATION: Buildings and Grounds



QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  1. College degree preferred



  2. Proficient in programming and managing BAS platforms (e.g., Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls).



  3. Strong knowledge of sustainability standards and energy regulations.



  4. Skilled in data analysis, energy modeling, and technical documentation.



  5. Excellent communication, project coordination, and customer service skills.



  6. Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.



  7. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between district buildings.



  8. Experience with school facilities preferred



  9. Knowledge of energy guidelines, standards, and sustainability efforts (e.g., ASHRAE, EPA, USDE).



  10. Experience developing project plans and participating in project teams



  11. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff at all levels



  12. Effective communication, both oral and written



  13. Proficient computer skills, including creating spreadsheets, documents, presentations, and reports.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Building Automation Specialist is responsible for overseeing the District's energy and sustainability initiatives while managing and programming the Building Automation System (BAS) to ensure efficient and optimized building performance. This role blends high-level strategic sustainability planning with technical expertise in BAS programming, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement to support environmental responsibility, occupant comfort, and financial stewardship.

Director of Facilities



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Building Automation System Programming



  1. Program, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain Building Automation Systems (BAS) to manage HVAC, lighting, and other building systems.



  2. Coordinate with system providers to optimize control logic, schedules, and sequence of operations..



  3. Respond to comfort calls using BAS and conduct field visits as needed.



  4. Maintain accurate documentation of control system architecture and programming updates.



  5. Submit and track work orders related to energy management and Building Automation Systems (BAS).



  6. Support the integration of new mechanical and energy systems into the Building Automation System (BAS) infrastructure. 





Energy Management



  1. Develop and lead district-wide sustainability and energy conservation strategies, incorporating best practices and guidelines from ASHRAE, EPA, USDE, and other authorities.



  2. Conduct regular building energy assessments (including day, night, and weekend periods) to identify opportunities for conservation.



  3. Monitor energy use across facilities, identify trends, and implement data-driven improvements to optimize energy efficiency.



  4. Prepare and maintain baseline energy models; calculate and report energy savings.



  5. Support communication of energy conservation efforts and encourage behavioral changes among staff and students.



  6. Recommend alternative energy sources and oversee curtailment events to ensure optimal energy utilization.



  7. Track utility usage and ensure billing aligns with contracts and energy budgets.
     





PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:



Physical Requirements:



  1. Ability to work in a very fast-paced and demanding environment.



  2. Ability to meet the physical demands of facility and equipment inspection in buildings, on roofs, and in the field.



  3. Ability to work on a computer for a significant portion of the workday.



  4. Ability to speak and hear.



  5. Ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, and use hands and fingers.



  6. Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds.



  7. Ability to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.





 



Environmental Conditions:



  1. Indoors in an environment with exposure to constant noise and communication, and wide temperature variations.



  2. Outdoors in an environment with wide temperature variations and inclement weather.



  3. Potential exposure to severe weather conditions.



  4. Frequent work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.



  5. Required to leave the main work site to attend meetings and inspect work or construction sites for compliance with District standards.



  6. Public contact requires appropriate business-like apparel.



  7. Ability to climb ladders and work from heights.
