QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
Required
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Administrative endorsement or eligibility
- Teacher Evaluation Certification
- Experience in student services, special education, health services, or educational leadership
- Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, ISBE regulations, transition services, and Extended School Year programming
- Experience supervising and evaluating certified staff
- Demonstrated ability to lead programs, manage systems, and support staff through complex work
Preferred
- District-level leadership experience
- Experience supervising or coordinating school health services or nursing staff
- Background in school health services, nursing leadership, or experience collaborating closely with school nurses
- Experience coordinating Extended School Year programming
- Experience leading or coordinating transition programming for students ages 18 to 22.
- Knowledge of and experience collaborating with adult service agencies, including DRS, DHS, community agencies, college disability services, and employment support providers.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Director of Student Services and Supports provides district-level leadership to ensure equitable access, regulatory compliance, and high-quality health, special education, and student support services for all students. This role leads systems, builds professional capacity, and partners with school leaders to strengthen programs that promote student well-being, independence, and postsecondary success.
Primary areas of responsibility include oversight of district health services, supervision of assigned student services staff, the principal of the Barrington Transition Program, support of special education facilitators, and coordination of Extended School Year (ESY) services.
The Assistant Director provides operational leadership for district health services, including supervision of nursing staff, coordination of district health systems, and support for safe and consistent nursing practices across schools. While the role focuses on operational leadership, the district highly values candidates with experience in school health services and is committed to maintaining strong clinical expertise within the nursing team. Clinical expertise and professional practice guidance for nursing services are supported through a designated District Nurse Facilitator stipend role.

SUPERVISES: District nursing staff and Barrington Transition Program staff
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Barrington Transition Program Principal
- Lead and evaluate the Barrington Transition Program to ensure effective instruction, community-based learning, and postsecondary outcomes for students.
- Provide oversight and coaching to middle school special education facilitators to strengthen compliance, instructional planning, and service delivery.
- Coordinate and supervise Extended School Year (ESY) programming, including staffing, student identification, curriculum, and operations.
- Monitor program effectiveness and implement continuous improvement practices aligned with district goals.
- Provide guidance to administrators and teams regarding complex student needs and programmatic decisions.
Health Services Leadership
The Assistant Director provides district-level operational leadership of the school health services program to ensure safe, consistent, and compliant health practices across all schools.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervise and evaluate certified school nurses and other health services personnel.
- Coordinate staffing, hiring, onboarding, and substitute coverage for district nursing staff.
- Ensure consistent implementation of district protocols related to medication administration, emergency response, student health care plans, and communicable disease management.
- Oversee district procedures related to mandated screenings, immunization compliance, and required health reporting.
- Support the development and implementation of Individualized Health Care Plans and Emergency Care Plans for students with complex medical needs.
- Partner with building administrators and nurses to support safe and responsive care for students with acute and chronic health needs.
- Oversee health services systems, including documentation procedures, health record management, and compliance with applicable state and federal regulations.
- Collaborate with public health agencies and community partners regarding communicable disease management, prevention initiatives, and emergency preparedness.
- Monitor health services practices across schools to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance with district policies and professional standards.
Clinical nursing guidance and professional practice expertise are supported through a District Nurse Facilitator stipend role that collaborates with the Assistant Director to support training, consultation, and implementation of best practices.
Systems & Compliance Management
- Ensure district compliance with IDEA, Section 504, ISBE regulations, and Board of Education policies.
- Oversee implementation of procedures, documentation, timelines, and reporting requirements related to health and student services, special education, ESY, and transition.
- Collaborate with district and building leadership to maintain consistent practices and equitable access to services across schools.
- Provide guidance on complex student cases, staffing considerations, and programmatic decision-making.
Supervision & Professional Capacity
- Supervise, evaluate, and support certified school nurses, teachers, related service providers, and assigned student services personnel.
- Provide coaching, feedback, and professional learning to build staff expertise and strengthen service delivery.
- Align staffing models and resources to meet student needs effectively and efficiently.
- Coordinate leadership structures that support professional practice, including the District Nurse Facilitator stipend role.
- Support onboarding and training of new staff, including BTP staff and district nursing staff, in collaboration with the District Nurse Job Alike Facilitator.
Collaboration & Culture
- Partner with administrators, staff, families, and community agencies to support student success and well-being.
- Collaborate with adult service agencies and postsecondary partners to support successful transitions beyond high school.
- Participate in district leadership teams, strategic planning, and professional learning initiatives.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, trust, and shared responsibility for outcomes.
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Travel between district buildings and program sites is required
- Duties consistent with a district-level administrative leadership role
