Nevada Gold Mines is looking for a Paste Fill Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the manufacturing, distribution, and paste project development across NGM. NGM currently operates two paste fill plants with a third plant being brought online in 2025. Additional plants are being studied with the potential for an additional three paste plants being constructed over the next 10 years. Key role duties will be providing engineering support to operational Paste Engineers focused on development and maintenance of paste fill standards, mentorship of junior staff, recipe optimization, and QA/QC. This includes management of third parties and delivery of work scopes as related to paste & development of new paste fill systems in conjunction with the study and capital construction teams. The SME role will be designed to focus on mentorship and will have a dotted line relationship with the Operational Paste Fill Engineers.

Nevada Gold Mines (NGM) is a joint venture between Barrick (61.5%) and Newmont (38.5%) that combined our significant assets across Nevada in 2019 to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world. NGM produces approximately 3 million ounces of gold a year. Responsibilities
Paste Fill Standards & Governance
- Ensure technical support for existing Paste Fill Operations
- Work with the Geotechnical team to optimize paste fill recipes for required strengths, placement, and performance
- Develop, maintain, and improve paste fill operational and technical standards for use by operating sites
- Audit site compliance against Paste Fill Standards/Governance
- Lead and undertake technical studies related to paste fill including selection and analysis of alternate binders, source material, and technical inputs into new facilities
- Build, calibrate and maintain reticulation models and guide operating designs for LOM fill placement designs
- Lead the technical studies supporting future paste plant justification and scoping
- Guide commissioning and ramp up of future paste plants
- Oversight of Operational planning processes and provide technical assistance to Paste Fill Engineers
- Evaluate novel and innovative alternatives to optimize paste fill operations at all existing paste facilities
- Review all aspects of paste fill operations and develop improvement plans with the operating team
- Lead investigations related to paste fill production, technical or safety incidents
- Mentor engineers and mining staff in paste fill design, operation, and best practice
- Degree or diploma in mining engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or related field required.
- At least 10 years’ experience in underground mining including at least 5 years working with Paste Fill Systems required
- Experience managing technical work required
- Demonstrated ability to read/understand/develop flowsheets required
- Demonstrated ability to understand and build cost/benefit analysis documents required
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to assimilate complex information into easily understood communication, presentations, and resource aids required
- Previous experience leading and directing technical and operational teams required
- Project management experience preferred
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office software required
- Working knowledge of SAP software preferred
