Position Summary:
The Phlebotomist performs phlebotomy, specimen processing, computer accessioning, informs patients on proper specimen collection techniques and other duties related to specimen collection, provides results distribution and assists with patient flow. Successful candidates should have a passion for customer service excellence, work well in a team environment and enjoy working with the public.
Shift: 1.0 FTE, 5x8, 0830-1700 M-F.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.
- Previous experience and/or training in proper phlebotomy techniques preferred.
- Consideration for on the job training experiences is available to successful candidates seeking a fulfilling career in healthcare
Essential Functions:
- Draw blood from a capillary stick, or venipuncture in accordance with lab procedures for testing ordered.
- Collect nasal swabs as needed in OP or in assisting ER.
- Courier samples between department as needed for timely patient care.
- Processes and prepares specimens for testing by centrifugation and separation as needed.
- Performs computer tasks with patient orders, receiving, collection and results.
- Prepares samples for transport to reference laboratories, and distributes reports received.
- Manages patient flow for inpatients and outpatients to ensure samples are drawn in a timely manner.
- Helps maintain laboratory supplies, inventory, and restocking.
- Briefs patients on purpose of ABN's.
- Practices AIDET.
- Completes all the tasks in the phlebotomist's maintenance chart.
- Performs and Maintains CLIA Waived testing as applicable.
