Maintenance Manager
Reports to: Plant Manager
Department: Operations
Environment: USDA/FDA regulated, hot/cold/refrigerated production facility
Position Summary
Oversees all facility maintenance operations, ensuring equipment, buildings, and systems are safe, compliant, and functioning efficiently. Manages the maintenance team, budgets, vendors, and capital projects.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Operations
- Plan, schedule, and supervise corrective and preventive maintenance for all facility equipment, buildings, and grounds.
- Oversee mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and HVAC systems.
Budget & Vendor Management
- Manage maintenance department budgets, including repairs, utilities, and equipment purchases.
- Negotiate and oversee vendor and contractor contracts.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with USDA/FDA regulations, safety policies, and building codes.
- Conduct routine inspections and implement safety procedures.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and evaluate maintenance staff.
- Manage hiring and task delegation.
Project Management
- Lead facility upgrades, installations, and renovation projects from planning through completion.
Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, repair histories, and expense records.
General Expectations
- Follow company policies and safety procedures.
- Maintain awareness of emergency plans, report safety concerns, and participate in job-specific safety training.
Qualifications
Experience & Education
- Proven maintenance management or supervisory experience required.
- High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree in engineering, facilities management, or related field preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of MEP, HVAC, carpentry, and CMMS systems.
- Solid problem-solving and organizational abilities.
Leadership
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with staff, vendors, and management.
Work Environment & Requirements
Work Conditions
- On-site role involving office work, inspections, and hands-on tasks.
- On-call availability for emergency issues.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb, work at heights, enter confined spaces, and tolerate hot/cold environments.
- Lift up to 40 lbs; perform kneeling, bending, reaching, and manual tasks.
- Work in refrigerated areas for extended periods and freezer areas for short durations.
- Ability to distinguish colors for coded systems.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Certified Facility Manager (CFM) or equivalent.
- California Driver’s License.
- Basic Spanish proficiency.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
