JOB TITLE: District Athletics Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Operations/Athletics
REPORTS TO: Associate Superintendent/Superintendent

SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Plan, organize, direct and implement the District athletic activities, including recommending the purchase and rental of equipment and athletic facilities. Coach or assist coaches in various athletic programs. Serve as the district point of contact for athletic program questions from school, district and state personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must be of good character and moral behavior, have no convictions of a felony or past criminal history, and be in good health as evidenced by completion of a physical examination as prescribed by the Board. Must have teacher certification; Successful completion of a criminal records check, AIDS awareness training, current certification in first aid and CPR and Valid Kentucky driver’s license required.
CRITICAL SKILL/EXPERTISE REQUIRED:
Knowledge of:
- Fundamentals of various sports.
- Health and safety regulations.
- Oral and written communication skills
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Works with all the Barren County Schools to develop a district-wide athletic program to ensure uniformity and coordination.
- Develops athletic policies for BCHS and BCMS with input from principals and athletic directors at each school.
- Develops a district athletic coaches handbook.
- Assist all head coaches and assistant coaches through a mentoring program.
- Along with BCHS and BCMS athletic directors help with the evaluation of all coaches.
- Serves as a consultant within the district on all athletic construction projects.
- Assists with the schools to promote publicity for all sports, such as sports brochures and other publications, press releases and such.
- Maintains the “Scores Report” page for BCHS and BCMS to help provide score information as well as promote sports at those schools.
- Fosters good community relationships by keeping the community aware and responsive to all athletic programs.
- Works with each coach to develop written player expectations to be given to families and players.
- Work with coaches on budgets, fundraiser proposals and summaries, general finance paperwork etc.
- Maintains a close working relationship with the district and school personnel to ensure information exchange, coordination, and support for the decision-making process and the collection of feedback concerning services.
- Keeps the superintendent and principals informed about potential problems or unusual events.
- Promotes professional growth and enrichment by encouraging athletic directors and coaches to be members of professional athletic organizations and to participate in approved clinics, conferences, and required compliance seminars.
- Sets high standards and expectations for self and others.
- Assists in maintaining appropriate coordination among the various programs related to athletic services.
- Supports the goals and priorities of the District.
- Represents the District in a positive and professional manner.
- Provides schools with necessary leadership that will enable all schools to develop their individual athletic programs to the fullest extent.
- Encourages schools to provide athletic opportunities to all students. Establish annual athletic program goals and objectives.
- Uses appropriate styles to motivate, gain commitment, and encourage positive change or task accomplishment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Will be required to complete all required training and attend in-service sessions.
- Performs assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Consistently displays self-control with parents, students and school personnel.
- Maintains a clean workstation (bus, desk, office, etc.)and does maintenance as needed.
- Be clean, neat and appropriately dressed.
- Be consistently responsible and display an attitude of honesty and credibility.
- Show enthusiasm, interest and concern for the total program and its efficient operation.
- Maintains student control.
- Operate equipment in a safe manner at all times.
- Demonstrate positive behavior toward the purposes and goals of the Barren County Public Schools.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Work year is comprised of 75 days.
- Salary commensurate with adopted certified personnel salary schedule.
- Sick leave and personal leave provided as stated in board policy.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
