What are the responsibilities and job description for the PreK Paraeducator position at Barre City Elementary and Middle School?
The BUUSD is seeking Prekindergarten Classroom Paraeducators for the 2026-2027 school year to work with prekindergarten students.
The Prekindergarten Classroom Paraeducator supports the lead teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for young children (ages 3–5).
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Support lead teacher with classroom activities
- Prep, set up and organization of classroom materials
- Supervising children during all classroom activities, on the playground and during outdoor learning
- Set up and clean up of meals
- Supporting children’s hygiene routines (including toileting, diaper changes and other needs that may arise)
- Supporting the maintenance of a clean and organized learning space
- Support and foster positive social interactions, developmentally appropriate learning, and ensure the well-being of all students
This job comes with a full benefits package. The starting pay rate for this position is $20 to $21, depending on experience and education.
Job Requirements:
- Previous experience working with prek children and early education training/education for at least one year is highly preferred
- Applicants without any courses in early childhood education will be required to take a child development course offered through the local community college within one year of hire, as required by the Vermont Child Development Division
- Applicants must have a high school degree or GED and pass a Paraeducator Assessment, which is administered by appointment at the BUUSD Central Office
