Position Overview:

The Process Control & Automation Specialist will be responsible for analyzing, designing, and implementing solutions that streamline the company's day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with industrial automation and automated packaging equipment, AB CompactLogix and ControlLogix systems, programming, machine principle of operation, creating solutions for improving machine performance or increasing reliability, as well as a strong background in automation projects from concept to completion. Responsible for maintenance and support of Controls Systems and able to troubleshoot Control Systems to support Operations during unplanned downtime events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Expertise: Provide expert guidance on best practices for automation, controls, system integration, and machine health. Provide expertise during Breakdown Analysis sessions to determine root cause and long-term countermeasures to prevent recurrence.
  • Continuous Improvement: Evaluate existing automation processes and technologies, recommending improvements to enhance productivity, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Project Leadership: Lead automation projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and meet performance requirements.
  • System Design: Develop and implement control system improvement efforts using AB CompactLogix and ControlLogix platforms, ensuring reliability and efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to control systems and automation processes, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, and quality assurance, to align automation strategies with business goals.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation for control systems, including design specifications, user manuals, and maintenance procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer 5 years of experience with controls and automation, with a strong focus on AB CompactLogix and ControlLogix systems. Bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus.
  • Proven experience in guiding automation projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of PLC programming concepts and functionality, HMI development, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have experience with AC/DC motors and controllers, Control Circuits, Computers, VFD’s, Servos, MCC’s and instrumentation devices.
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering documents.
  • Must have the ability to install and maintain process instrumentation including sensors, transmitters, controllers and final control elements for measurement and control of temperature, pressure, level and flow.
  • Professional certifications related to automation and control systems are a plus.

Work Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a typical production environment with loud noise levels and moving equipment.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals used in blending, packaging, and distribution.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, talk, see, hear, and use hands/wrists for extended periods.
  • Ability to author reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts to tasks such as frequency distribution, test reliability, and analysis of variance.
  • Ability to apply principles of logic and scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work near moving machinery and at heights, with limited exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, vibration, and extreme temperatures.
  • Limited travel (<20%) is required for this role.
