Job Title: Behavior Specialist
Company: The Baroco Corporation
Location: On site – Will cover all Baroco’s Massachusetts locations.
Pay: $33/hr.-$40/hr. (based on education and experience)
Schedule: 20 hours per week (schedule is flexible but must be during program operating hours M-F 8:00-4:00)

Position Summary:

The Behavior Specialist role supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) by developing, implementing, and monitoring person-centered behavior support strategies that improve quality of life, independence, community participation, and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

· Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) to identify the causes and functions of challenging behaviors.

· Conduct Functional Analysis (FA) when needed.

· Analyze environmental, communication, medical, and social factors that may influence behavior.

· Collect, review, and analyze behavioral data to identify patterns and trends.

· Develop individualized Behavior Support Plans (BSPs), Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs), and behavioral guidelines.

· Identify and teach replacement skills and behaviors to reduce maladaptive behaviors and increase independence.

· Monitor the effectiveness of behavioral interventions and recommend adjustments based on data and outcomes.

· Implement proactive, person-centered strategies that promote adaptive skills and quality of life while aligning with DDS, MassHealth, and organizational requirements.

· Provide training and ongoing coaching to direct support professionals, nurses, supervisors, and program staff on behavior support strategies, data collection, crisis prevention, positive reinforcement, and consistent plan implementation.

· Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including but not limited to program leadership, direct support staff, nurses, DDS Service Coordinators, guardians/families, residential providers, therapists, and medical professionals.

· Support crisis prevention and risk reduction by identifying individuals at risk for behavioral escalation, recommending environmental modifications, developing prevention strategies, and promoting least restrictive interventions.

· Complete Service Needs Assessments.

· Review individual goals and objectives at least semi-annually and provide recommendations for program modifications, teaching strategies, and support needs.

· Maintain all required professional certifications and provide updated documentation upon hire and renewal.

Qualifications:

· Masters level BCBA preferred, BCaBA and Master’s level Psychologist will also be considered. BCBA/BCaBA will require at least one year’s experience with data collection and with implementing behavioral programming required. Master’s level Psychologist must have a master's degree in clinical psychology and at least three years of full-time, supervised, postgraduate experience. Experience must include working with individuals that exhibit challenging behaviors.

· Excellent communication skills coupled with a compassionate approach toward patient care.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (bilingual skills preferred)

  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and individuals
  • Commitment to professionalism, reliability, and ethical practice
  • Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred

Physical & Work Requirements:

· Medium physical demand (up to 40 lbs.) may assist with lifts and transfers

· Indoor work environment with typical program-related noise

· Ability to organize, plan, and complete tasks independently

· Strong judgment, problem-solving, safety awareness, communication and clinical decision-making skills
