Position: Integrated ELA & Social Studies Teacher for ACE-alternative learning program
JOB GOAL: The Integrated ELA & Social StudiesTeacher will design and teach a variety of courses that incorporate learning standards from the English and social studies frameworks, support student academic achievement and personal development, and participate in all aspects of the ACE Program at Barnstable High School, which will provide a structured, interdisciplinary, trauma-sensitive environment with a work component for students who will thrive in a supportive small community.
REPORTS TO: ACE Program Coordinator
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MA State Licensure in English and or History
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design engaging, student-centered courses that build core academic and critical thinking skills using PBL, engage with real-world issues and challenges (including issues and challenges related to education and work in the 21st century), and adhere to appropriate MA Frameworks
- To help students learn subject matter, skills, attitudes and appreciations that are appropriate to their individual needs and levels of learning while helping students to discover and develop their special talents.
- Provide personalized academic supports that meet students where they are and challenge them to move toward their learning edges, including but not limited to differentiating instruction, working directly with students to identify their needs and interests, following IEPs, and meeting EL needs
- Create classroom environments that foster mutual respect, collaborative learning, and positive behaviors
- Address behavior and disciplinary issues in accordance with ACE Program policies and procedures
- Provide ongoing academic, behavioral, and social emotional support to advisees, including building community and opportunities for mutual support in Advisory
- Participate in creation and sustaining or a responsive, trauma-sensitive, asset-based, affirming, celebratory school culture and community
- Participate in parent, teacher, and student conferences to discuss student academic, social emotional, and behavioral progress;
- Model ACE Program values at all times;
- Uphold all relevant ACE Program, BHS and district policies fairly and consistently;
- Input all required data in a timely fashion, including but not limited to attendance, grades, and discipline data;
- Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Typical office conditions: sitting, bending, stooping, filing, occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds of office supplies/files. Close vision at or correctable to normal range.
