Description

Summary:

Handle and/or feed material, set up, operate, monitor and/or tends complex equipment to perform related multi-process operations in the manufacture or movement of products. Work to quality standards and specifications in accordance with established practices, processes, regulations, guidelines and standards in a safe and efficient manner.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Abide by, enforce and participate in the implementation and ongoing oversight of all company safety standards and regulations.
  • Set up, prepare, tend and/or operate multiple process machines, equipment and materials for production runs, and conduct test runs of machines to ensure their proper operation.
  • Operate or tend equipment or machines involved in the blending and/or initial processing/cutting of natural and/or synthetic fiber/material in compliance with established specifications. Start, stop, clean, and monitor machines and equipment for proper functioning.
  • Handle a wide variety of configurations and specifications. Read and interpret orders and prioritize tasks based on customer driven timeline and availability of materials. Analyze proportions and perform complex calculations and configurations of material to be used in the production process so as to maximize overall yields and minimize waste. Select required material and/or feed, handle, prepare and/or weigh/measure material based on calculation for in process or finished goods processes.
  • Monitor equipment and processes to ensure adherence to standards. Observe display screens, control panels, equipment, and fiber/material entering or exiting processes to determine if equipment is operating correctly; adjust equipment controls to maintain specified heat, pressure, tension, and/or speed.
  • Follow specifications for the processing of material. Examine and feel products to identify defects and variations from processing standards.
  • Accurately maintain and record production information, communicate with supervisor and relevant personnel on the condition of the operation/production and any unusual circumstances or issues. Notify supervisors or mechanics of equipment malfunctions.
  • Effectively clean and maintain machinery, equipment, and work areas to ensure proper functioning and safe working conditions.
  • Train more junior or new associates in appropriate safety procedures, work instructions and quality standards.
  • Cover shift or unit supervisor responsibilities in the absence of a shift or unit supervisor.
  • Actively contribute to continuous process improvement. Participate in training and continuous learning opportunities; meet training and/or certification requirements of the job, department, product or area as designated/defined in work instructions and quality standards.

Requirements

Education/Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, over one (1) year up to and including two (2)years’ experience in a manufacturing environment; or any combination of education and experience.

Language Ability

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

This position requires proficiency in one or more of the following technologies to be successful:

Industrial Control software, Enterprise Resource Planning Software, Word Processing software, Spreadsheet Software, and Electronic Mail software

Certificates And Licenses

May be required to hold certification for the operation of industrial trucks

Other Qualifications

This position may require specific knowledge in one or more of the following areas to be successful:

  • Basic computers and electronics.
  • Raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Multi-Machine operators must have demonstrated knowledge and experience on the set-up, preparation, and/or operation of 3 or more of the equipment/machinery used in the production process.
  • Chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
  • Relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote safe operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
