Heritage Early Learning Center is seeking a caring, dependable, and energetic School-Age Assistant Teacher to join our team in Barnesville, Ohio. This position supports children in Kindergarten through 12 years old in a safe, structured, and engaging before/after school and summer program environment.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working with older children, supports independence, and helps create a positive, respectful, and fun learning atmosphere.
The School-Age Assistant Teacher will support Lead Teachers in supervising and engaging children ages 5–12 during before school, after school, school closures, and summer programming. This role focuses on providing structure, encouragement, academic support, and enrichment activities in a Christ-centered environment.
- Supervise children during before/after school care, summer camp, and school closure days
- Assist with bus drop-off and pick-up procedures
- Ensure children are safe, accounted for, and appropriately engaged at all times
- Support positive peer interactions and model respectful behavior
- Encourage independence while maintaining appropriate supervision
- Assist with homework help and academic enrichment activities
- Support implementation of age-appropriate lesson plans and activities
- Facilitate creative, physical, and recreational activities
- Encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and positive decision-making
- Help maintain a structured, respectful, and positive environment
- Use redirection and positive guidance strategies when needed
- Support children in developing social-emotional skills and responsibility
- Reinforce classroom and center expectations consistently
- Maintain a safe and organized environment at all times
- Follow all center policies, procedures, and licensing regulations
- Assist in emergency procedures and drills when needed
- Report concerns, incidents, or injuries to Lead Teacher or Administration immediately
- Work collaboratively with Lead Teachers and staff
- Communicate professionally with children, families, and team members
- Support daily routines, transitions, and program schedules
- Engaging, positive, and patient personality
- Ability to work with a wide age range (Kindergarten–12 years)
- Strong sense of responsibility and reliability

This role requires the ability to:
- Stand, walk, run, bend, reach, and actively engage with children
- Lift up to 50 pounds when needed
- Work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
- Supervise active play environments, including playground and gym settings
- Experience working with school-age children preferred (K–12)
- High school diploma or equivalent required (minimum)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to maintain structure while keeping a positive, engaging tone
- First Aid/CPR certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
