Location: Wilmington, DE (Preferred) or any of Barnes & Thornburg's 23 nationwide offices
Barnes & Thornburg LLP seeks a Manager of Unclaimed Property to join and help lead a collaborative and growing team of accountants and attorneys working on unclaimed property matters. The firm is committed to building a "best-in-class" team of professionals who enjoy working together to solve unclaimed property problems and serve clients.
Summary
The Manager of Unclaimed Property will work directly with a team to manage unclaimed property matters, including reviews of voluntary disclosures submitted by companies. The Manager will engage with clients, unclaimed property administrators, professionally adverse parties, and opposing attorneys and accountants to conduct efficient and effective unclaimed property reviews and negotiate resolutions. The Manager of Unclaimed Property will also assist with growing, training, managing, and developing a broader team of unclaimed property professionals.
This position is preferably located in our Wilmington, Delaware office but a candidate will be considered in any of Barnes & Thornburg's 23 nationwide offices.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assists with project management for complex unclaimed property matters - managing tasks and deadlines.
- Assists with analysis and reconciliation of accounting records and deliverables.
- Investigates transactions and history to determine if selected transactions represent unclaimed property.
- Prepares calculations of unclaimed property liability and associated statistical sampling.
- Delegates and provides effective feedback to team members.
- Supports delivery of effective client and adverse party presentations.
- Prepares professional client-ready reports.
- Researches company financial information and unclaimed property issues.
- Reviews unclaimed property reports filed with states.
- Applies unclaimed property law and regulations to company facts and accounting transactions.
- Investigates entity corporate structures and histories.
- Drafts responses to inquiries and requests from opposing parties.
- Helps train, mentor, and develop team members at various levels.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required
- 5 years of accounting/audit experience with 3 years of unclaimed property experience.
- Knowledge of statistical, financial, and accounting principles generally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree.
- Commitment to excellence and problem-solving.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- A collaborative attitude and team player mentality.
- Organizational and project management skills, effective at prioritizing and delegating.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Advanced fluency in Excel is required (pivot tables, lookup functions, embedded formulas, etc.).
- The candidate must be proactive with time management skills.
- The candidate must be a self-motivated person and will be treated like a professional.
