Barnes Jewish West County is looking for an experienced Dieititia. This is a PRN (as needed) position.
Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.
The Diabetes Education Center provides Outpatient Clinical Nutrition Therapy Counseling and also is responsible for the Outpatient Diabetes Self Management Training Program (DSMT). The Certified Diabetes Nurse Educator also takes referrals for the inpatient areas.

Role Purpose
The registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) works within the interprofessional team and with the patient and family providing medical nutrition therapy (MNT) to patients with complex/multiple metabolic diagnosis and diseases. This role combines these responsibilities with those of assuring and promoting quality patient care. This level of dietitian upgrades the existing standards of practice. Members of the health care team recognize this dietitian as a resource person, researcher, and change agent. A certification within job responsibilities is required for this position and include one or more of the following: CSP, CNSC, CDCES, CCTD , CSO, CSG , CSR, Weight Management; Adult, Ped, Adolescent.

Responsibilities
- Includes responsibilities of RD I, II, and III plus coordinates care with inpatient and outpatient providers, anticipates long term effects of nutrition support, TPN, and orders custom TPN.
- Adjusts electrolyte and medication additives in nutrition prescription. Implements, initiates, or modifies orders for enteral nutrition, parenteral nutrition, intravenous fluid infusions, medications.
- Integrates into practice knowledge of the research associated with the science, physiology, and pathophysiology of complex disease processes, and utilizes this knowledge when recommending and providing nutrition support therapy.
- Leads the integration of new scientific knowledge, and/or new research methodologies, in communications with health care professionals. Mentors individuals in advancing a specific skill set.
- Analyzes and reports nutrition support therapy utilization and related costs; modifies organization/departmental practices based on results in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
