Role Summary
Our Barnes Aerospace, CT-South CRO Site located in East Granby, Connecticut, is seeking a CNC Machinist & Trainer to join our team for a 6 month project. This position requires a skilled machinist who can balance hands-on production responsibilities with the training and onboarding of new machinists. The successful candidate will provide guidance, demonstrate best practices, and support skill development while continuing to meet individual production and quality expectations.
Shift: 1st, 2nd, or 3rd
Key Responsibilities
- Operate 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC milling and/or turning machines
- Run multiple machines simultaneously, as most equipment is part of manufacturing cells or machining centers
- Machine hard metals such as Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel
- Load parts and fixtures using hoists and safely position workpieces in machines
- Make program-required offsets and adjustments using Fanuc controls
- Read and interpret CNC programs at the machine
- Set up tools using tool sheets and ensure proper configuration
- Inspect parts using precision measuring tools to ensure conformance to specifications
- Train, mentor, and support new and less experienced machinists, including:
- Demonstrating proper machine setup, operation, and best practices
- Reinforcing safety, quality standards, and standard work procedures
- Providing hands-on guidance and real-time feedback during onboarding and daily production
- Balance individual production responsibilities with training duties to maintain productivity while supporting team development
- Serve as a resource on the floor for troubleshooting, process questions, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED with 3 years of experience setting up and changing over jobs on CNC equipment. Prior experience training, mentoring, or leading machinists highly preferred
- Ability to read English and interpret symbols on operation sheets
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to work collaboratively
- Proficiency in mathematics and calculator use
- Experience making offsets at the machine. Ability to read and understand CNC programs
- Experience setting up and using machining tools and fixtures
- Proficiency with precision measuring equipment, including gauges, swing gauges, calipers, and micrometers
- Familiarity with right-tangle head operations
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (CG&T)
