The Graduate Assistant will support the International Student Services (ISS) Office with planning, organizing, and leading a variety of social, cultural, and educational events for the international student community at Barnard College. This includes overseeing the Global Ambassador (international student leader) program, coordinating event logistics, and contributing to a vibrant student life experience for international students, all while adhering to budget and safety guidelines. This position is fully in-person and is ideal for an individual who wishes to have exposure to a Student Affairs role or gain experience within the field of International Education. This role requires excellent organizational skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Job Description
The Graduate Assistant will provide support for the ISS Office as follows:
- Provide leadership to the Global Ambassador Program (international student leaders) by setting goals and direction, and supporting the recruitment, training, and supervision of student participants.
- Plan and execute student programs, workshops, and activities designed to foster a sense of belonging and welcome at Barnard.
- Assist with recruitment and selection of Global Ambassadors
- Participate in Navigating Barnard Week during the Summer Pre-Orientation Program in August if available
- Participate in Spring Orientation and identify new student needs
- Provide wide-ranging administrative support for ISS signature programs (designing printed materials including flyers and signage, co-presenting at workshops or programs, preparing materials needed for orientation programs and events)
- Gather and compile data from various sources for the annual submission of the IIE Open Doors International Student Census every Spring
- Focus Group moderator; plan, facilitate, and lead focus groups to gather qualitative insights on the Barnard international student experience for valuable data and research purposes
- Must be enrolled in an MA or PhD program at a regionally accredited institution with a focus on International Education, Higher Education Administration and/or Student Affairs (preferred)
- Exceptional communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with a diverse population.
- Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and familiarity with Canva
- Evening office coverage 1-2 days per week
- Experience with international student populations (preferred)
- Previous experience working and/or studying abroad (preferred)
- Bilingual skills (preferred)
