About the Role

MVSD uses Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching and Vermont’s Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities to guide professional practice. As an elementary teacher here, you’ll bring learning to life through thoughtful planning, a supportive classroom environment, skillful instruction, and strong professional engagement.


Essential Responsibilities

Planning & Preparation

  • Design engaging lessons using MVSD curriculum, Vermont Standards, Grade Level Expectations, and the Common Core.

  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge and effective pedagogy.

  • Understand each student’s background, skills, and interests—and plan instruction that responds to them.

  • Use research-based strategies, models, and resources.

  • Create assessments aligned with instructional goals, use data to inform instruction, and provide timely feedback.

  • Integrate technology to enhance learning and student engagement.

The Classroom Environment

  • Create a classroom culture grounded in respect, rapport, and belonging.

  • Foster a safe and supportive environment where students take risks and explore learning with confidence.

  • Promote excitement for learning and encourage students to own their success.

  • Provide opportunities for higher-order thinking and meaningful engagement.

Instruction

  • Communicate clear expectations, directions, and explanations.

  • Engage students in rigorous, meaningful learning throughout each lesson.

  • Use effective questioning and discussion techniques that reflect high expectations.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.

  • Use whole-group, small-group, and individualized instructional approaches as appropriate.

  • Incorporate ongoing assessments—including opportunities for student self-assessment.

  • Utilize student and district data to improve instruction and support growth.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Stay current with best practices, research, and district goals.

  • Reflect on teaching practices to support continuous growth.

  • Take risks with new ideas and instructional methods to deepen student learning.

  • Maintain open, regular communication with families through newsletters, conferences, and other channels.

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, including Special Educators and support staff, to implement student plans.

  • Contribute positively to the school community and participate in the professional learning community.

  • Supervise students as needed and complete required reports and records.

  • Uphold strong professional ethics, habits, and modeling for students.

  • Support paraeducators with purposeful assignments and guidance.

  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; at least one year of related experience preferred.

  • Strong understanding of child development and effective classroom practices.

  • Solid knowledge of academic content and demonstrated skills in literacy, mathematics, and instructional technology.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to navigate diverse situations with patience, compassion, and professionalism.

  • Experience working with children.

  • Ability to attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development activities.


Licensure & Certification

  • Valid Vermont Educator License with appropriate Early Childhood Education endorsement.

  • Must pass required criminal background checks.
