What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Officer position at Barkman Honey?
Drives a culture of safety across all facilities by ensuring compliance, preventing workplace injuries, and partnering with leadership and other departments to protect our team members and operations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops, implements, and enforces company-wide workplace safety policies and procedures. Oversees compliance for things like LOTO, PPE, fire safety, machine guarding, and powered industrial trucks.
- Conducts regular safety inspections at all Barkman Honey warehouses and facilities, and works closely with plant managers, maintenance, and other key team members to ensure issues are being addressed and fixed.
- Leads investigations of workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries, and tracks and follows up on corrective actions. Maintains OSHA logs and completes required electronic OSHA reporting.
- Coordinates efforts to provide safety training for new and existing team members, both ongoing and at annual trainings. Manages the First Responder program for all locations.
- Leads monthly corporate safety meetings. Serves as a resource to management and team members on best workplace safety practices.
- Creates, monitors, and conducts safety-related training for team members, ensuring that initial trainings, remedial trainings, refresher trainings, and annual trainings are compliant and timely.
- Participates in various internal and external audits. Uses programs like GoAudits and our UKG Learning System to maintain compliance.
TOOLKIT/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- You have a degree in safety management or related field, or equivalent relevant experience. OSHA 30 certification preferred (OSHA 10 required). Additional safety certifications are a plus.
- You have the ability to understand and integrate requirements from multiple regulatory entities (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, DOT, etc.) and understand how their standards apply to workplace safety.
- You have 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment. You are confident around manufacturing equipment and have a working knowledge of how machines and processes operate.
- You enjoy listening to and solving issues, and can work through problems in a fair, approachable, and collaborative manner.
- .You're able to dig into data to analyze trends, and can make recommendations for targeted safety improvements.
Expect 8-10 travel events per year.
