Veterinary Assistant — Urgent Care
Bark Ave Veterinary Services | Riverdale, NJ
We’re looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced, family-owned veterinary urgent care team.
At Bark Ave, no two days look the same. One minute you may be helping with a routine appointment, and the next you’re assisting with an urgent case, drawing blood, placing a catheter, taking radiographs, or helping a nurse stabilize a patient.
We’re looking for someone who likes that kind of environment.
What We're Looking For
- 2 years of veterinary assistant experience preferred
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced urgent care environment
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills
- Comfortable assisting with blood draws, IV catheter placement, diagnostics, radiographs, and procedures
- Confident communicating with clients and providing a warm, professional experience
- Able to anticipate what the doctors and veterinary nurses need
- Reliable, organized, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable working independently and staying productive without constant direction
- Not afraid to clean! Exam rooms, kennels, treatment areas, laundry, stocking, dishes, and keeping the hospital beautiful are part of everyone's job.
- Positive attitude and a true team-player mentality
- No "that's not my job" attitude
The Bark Ave Environment
We are a small, boutique-style urgent care practice where teamwork matters. Our caseload can be unpredictable, so we need someone who can jump in when we're busy and find productive ways to help when things slow down.
Downtime might mean restocking, cleaning, organizing, completing laundry, preparing rooms, helping another team member, reviewing inventory, or tackling a project that keeps the hospital running smoothly.
We're looking for someone who sees what needs to be done and does it.
Schedule
Noon–10 PM shifts
Weekends are required.
Our urgent care schedule can be unpredictable, so flexibility and comfort with a changing pace are important.
