School-Based Mental Health Therapist

Position Summary

The School-Based Mental Health Therapist provides high-quality, trauma-informed behavioral health services to children and adolescents within the school setting. The therapist partners with school personnel, families, and community providers to support students' emotional, behavioral, social, and academic success.

A key responsibility of this position is utilizing Bardstown Health & Healing's Best Path Forward approach to identify each student's unique needs and determine the most appropriate placement within the continuum of therapeutic services. Through clinical assessment, collaboration, and ongoing evaluation, therapists help ensure students receive the right level of care at the right time, whether through prevention services, individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, day treatment, community-based services, or referral to additional resources.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilize Best Path Forward, Bardstown Health & Healing's clinical decision-making framework, to assess student needs and recommend the most appropriate level of behavioral health intervention.
  • Conduct comprehensive behavioral health assessments to determine appropriate placement within Bardstown Health & Healing's continuum of services.
  • Reassess student progress regularly and modify recommendations to ensure services continue to meet clinical needs.
  • Provide evidence-based individual therapy to students referred for behavioral health services.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups focused on:
  • Social skills
  • Emotional regulation
  • Anger management
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Grief and loss
  • Coping skills
  • Self-esteem
  • Provide family therapy and parent consultation when clinically indicated.
  • Complete biopsychosocial assessments, diagnoses (when appropriate), treatment plans, safety plans, and clinical documentation in accordance with agency, Medicaid, and licensing standards.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, administrators, school counselors, Family Resource Centers, and other school personnel to support student success while maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA and FERPA.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, Student Support Teams, 504 meetings, IEP meetings (when appropriate), and other school-based planning meetings.
  • Provide crisis assessment, intervention, suicide risk assessment, and safety planning as needed.
  • Coordinate care with families, primary care providers, psychiatrists, community agencies, and other service providers to promote continuity of care.
  • Educate families and school staff regarding children's mental health, trauma-informed care, behavioral interventions, and available therapeutic resources.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in the agency's electronic health record.
  • Participate in agency supervision, staff meetings, professional development, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as an ambassador of Bardstown Health & Healing by promoting compassionate, accessible, and student-centered behavioral health services throughout partner school districts.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
