BR A provides state-of-the-art integrated and coordinated mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection consulting engineering, technology systems design, lighting design, and building commissioning services.
BR A is looking for a skilled Mechanical Designer in our Raleigh, NC office. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and communication skills and a working knowledge of Revit, and their responsibilities will include:
- Performing advanced heating and cooling load calculations
- Developing sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas
- Developing equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases
- Editing specifications to reflect the project requirements
- Developing air and water flows
- Understanding fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application
- Using the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system
- Meeting with vendors to determine specification requirements for application
- Coordinating with other disciplines (mepfp, arch, struct, etc) for all HVAC details
- Responding to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittals
- Understanding work planning and managing the design process to the available hours in the plan
- Understanding the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and delivering appropriate documentation
- Modifying sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems
- Understanding both constant and variable flow systems, and properly applying equipment
- Meeting with contractors during the bid phase to review the design details
- Performing field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit
- EIT (Engineer in Training) a plus
- 3-5 years of experience
- Experience in designing Healthcare, Commercial, Higher Education, or Life Science projects
