Role Description The Director of Nursing Surgical Services is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Southaven, MS. This role oversees all nursing operations within surgical services, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-anesthesia care units, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The Director leads and develops nursing teams, manages staffing plans, and supports recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluations. Daily responsibilities include collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient flow, OR utilization, and adherence to clinical pathways and evidence-based practices. The Director monitors quality, patient satisfaction, regulatory compliance, and budget performance, and implements improvement initiatives related to infection control, safety, documentation, and patient outcomes. The role also involves policy development, staff education, coordination of new technologies and procedures, and active participation in hospital committees and strategic planning for surgical services.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in clinical Nursing and Medicine, with the ability to apply evidence-based practices in surgical and perioperative settings.
- Demonstrated Nursing Management experience, including staff supervision, scheduling, performance management, and operational oversight in surgical or acute care environments.
- Knowledge of Infection Control principles and practices relevant to surgical services, including sterile technique, prevention of surgical site infections, and regulatory standards.
- Understanding of patient care across the continuum, including Long-term Care considerations, discharge planning, and coordination with post-acute providers.
- Current RN license in the state of Mississippi (or eligibility to obtain), with a BSN required; MSN, MBA, or related graduate degree preferred.
- Progressive leadership experience in perioperative or surgical services nursing within a hospital setting.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills, with the ability to lead interdisciplinary teams.
- Proficiency in clinical information systems, electronic health records, quality metrics, and data-driven decision-making.
- Ability to manage budgets, analyze financial reports, and support cost-effective, high-quality care delivery.
- Certification in perioperative nursing or nursing leadership (e.g., CNOR, NE-BC, NEA-BC) preferred.
