Highlights

Summary: The NP - Occupational Health, under the direction of a physician, shall coordinate, administer, and oversee the Baptist Health Workers Compensation Program. The NP will follow established nursing standards, procedures and practices, evaluate all exposures to bloodborne pathogens and communicable diseases, and provides direct patient care. Direct patient care will include the assessment/ordering labs, prophylaxysis medication, and all necessary follow up. Additionally, the NP shall review, investigate, and make decisions regarding compensability and appropriateness of claims. This individual will process and document workers compensation claims; as well as to,ensure compliance with relevant policies, procedures, and legislation. The NP will liaise with and advisement to external agencies and regulatory bodies in the administration of claims and in the care and disposition of claimants. This individual will facilitate the transitional duty program. The NP will demonstrate the consistent ability to act as a role model providing direction in the application of the nursing process, quality improvement standards, and organizational and departmental goals and objectives in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. The NP may also take call. This position may have additional duties assigned that may be within scope of the role.

Education / Experience:Master's degree in Nursing required. Minimum 2 years related experience in Occupational Health and/or workers compensation experience. License / Certification: Active RN license required, active NP license required, BLS required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to cope with stressful situations.
  • Ability to assess and treat injuries / illnesses and counsel employees, volunteers, students on safety and health issues.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Position requires sitting for 50% of the workday and mobility 50% of the workday.

There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.

There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action.

Requires occasional lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 70 pounds.

There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person.

Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.

Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels.

Much exposure to computer work.

Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock.

Some exposure to infectious disease while performing job-related tasks.

Some exposure to hazardous chemicals. Occasional exposure to radiation.
