Duties
- Conduct comprehensive patient intake, including recording medical history and current symptoms to facilitate accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen saturation to support clinical assessments.
- Assist with ophthalmic examinations by preparing patients, operating diagnostic equipment, and ensuring proper aseptic technique during procedures.
- Perform optical testing procedures including visual acuity assessments, refraction, and intraocular pressure measurements.
- Maintain accurate medical records within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or other EMR platforms, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and handling insurance or billing inquiries related to medical coding and billing processes.
- Educate patients on eye health, medication usage, and post-procedure care to promote understanding and adherence.
- Assist with inventory management of ophthalmic supplies and optical products while maintaining a clean, organized clinical environment.
Experience
- Prior experience working in an ophthalmology clinic or medical office setting is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy related to the eye, and physiology principles relevant to ophthalmic care.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for documentation and scheduling.
- Demonstrated ability to perform patient care tasks including vital signs measurement and intake procedures accurately.
- Experience with optical equipment operation and basic troubleshooting is advantageous.
- Background in retail sales or customer service enhances ability to engage with patients effectively while promoting optical products.
