SUMMARY
The Lifeguard is responsible for the health and safety of the children in care and individuals during swimming at facility pool. The Lifeguard will also assist with the cleaning of the swimming pool, maintenance of the swimming pool, and maintenance and upkeep of the area around the swimming pool and bathroom areas.

- Has a general knowledge of working with children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Has knowledge and understanding of the agency’s structures, services, policies, and procedures, job performance requirements and related jobs.
- Participates as a team member by sharing responsibilities and supporting other team members.
- Handles confidential information in a professional manner.
- Maintains lifeguard certification during employment.
- Actively monitor the water for potential hazards and swimmers in distress.
- Works with supervisor in planning and scheduling pool activities.
- Assist with the cleaning of the swimming pool, maintenance of the swimming pool, and maintenance and upkeep of the area around the swimming pool and bathroom areas.
- Adheres to and enforces all swimming pool rules and regulations as posted in the pool area.
- Notifies supervisor of any problems, and seeks immediate help in resolving any problems that might occur.
- Is familiar with the Emergency Action Plan.
- Perform swift and effective rescues of individuals in danger, using appropriate techniques and equipment according to lifeguard certification training.
- Assist with other area recreation activities as assigned.
- Respects the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of staff members and children in care and strives to create a positive relationship within BCH.
- Participates in the agency’s Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) program as needed.
Supervision:
- Works under the direct supervision of the Manager, Support Services and Maintenance.
- Maintains an open line of communication with supervisor. Requests conferences, as needed, to be able to perform tasks effectively.
- Participates in staff training opportunities provided by the agency as requested by the supervisor.
EQUIPMENT:
Ability to operate any equipment needed in first aid and CPR. Maintains adequate equipment and supplies for the assigned area to function.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, write and complete necessary documentation. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients, customers, resources and the general public.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS:
Regular contact with colleagues in all departments, as well as with outside individuals and groups; should represent Baptist Children's Homes of NC, Inc. in a positive manner. Contacts outside of the agency where proper handling of situations is of utmost importance as the agency’s image could be affected.
MENTAL / VISUAL / AUDITIORY DEMAND:
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and ability to draw conclusions.
CONFIDENTIAL DATA:
Complies with agency policies and procedures concerning confidentiality and HIPPA regulations involving all aspects of client information, which include day to day care of the children, case records, family information, medical information, psychological services, etc which if disclosed, would have adverse internal and/or external effect, and could result in termination of employment.
