What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Research Finance & Coverage Analysis Consultant position at Banting AI?
Clinical Research Finance & Coverage Analysis Consultant (Contract)
ABOUT BANTING HEALTH AI
Banting is building the AI platform for clinical research. Running clinical trials today requires an enormous amount of manual, document-driven work, and that burden falls on research coordinators, analysts, and administrators who are forced to spend most of their time on administrative work instead of patients and science. We're building the software that automates that operational layer, so research teams can run more trials, run them better, and get patients access to new treatments faster.
WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS
The rules that govern research billing, how visits and line items get classified, how coverage analysis matrices get built, how sponsor budgets get reconciled against a Schedule of Events, are complex, institutionally variable, and high-stakes. Getting them wrong has real consequences for the institutions we serve.
We are looking for a contract advisor who has built and reviewed these analyses firsthand, and who can guide and refine product development.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Support with methodology, SOE interpretation, fee schedule application, and sponsor negotiation norms
- NCD/LCD decision logic, visit and item classification (Research, Routine Care, Qualifying Trial), and how institutions handle edge cases and gray areas
- Identify gaps in our platform logic across SOE interpretation, sponsor budget reconciliation, and institutional cost structures
- Define the required logic for cost categories our platform needs to handle, including non-protocol costs such as PI time and coordinator effort, and the justification frameworks institutions use in sponsor negotiations
- Review AI-generated budget and coverage analysis outputs and flag anything that would be rejected by a budget analyst or compliance team, with specific reasoning
- Help us prioritize which rules, workflows, and institutional variations matter most for our initial buyers
WHO YOU ARE
You have worked in research finance or clinical trials budgeting at an academic medical center, large health system, consultancy, or CRO. You have personally built coverage analysis matrices or budget templates. You know the NCD 310.1 decision tree and you have an opinion on how institutions get it wrong.
- 5 years in clinical research finance, budget development, or coverage analysis at an AMC or health system
- Direct, hands-on experience with sponsor budget structures, SOE reconciliation, and visit-level cost analysis
- Deep familiarity with CMS Medicare research billing rules and the research billing distinction framework
- Comfortable reviewing AI-generated structured outputs and giving precise, technical feedback
- Clear communicator who can explain complex institutional logic to a technical team
Nice to have:
• Experience at an NCI-designated cancer center or large oncology program
• Familiarity with CTMS or budget platforms such as OnCore, Cayuse, or Advarra Budget
• ACRP, SOCRA, or NCURA certification
ABOUT THIS ENGAGEMENT
This is an hourly contract engagement. Hours will vary based on project cadence, we will scope work in advance so your time is used well. Sessions are conducted remotely via video call, with async review work between sessions.
