About Bannister Properties
Bannister Properties LLC is a privately held commercial real estate firm based in the Raleigh area with a 40 year operating track record. We own, operate, develop, and manage a diversified portfolio of commercial properties spanning office, medical, industrial, industrial outdoor storage, and other asset classes.
As a well-capitalized, owner-operated company, we take a long-term approach to real estate—prioritizing quality tenants, disciplined underwriting, and sustainable growth over short-term gains. Our integrated platform covers brokerage, development, property management, and investment activities, providing exposure to the full lifecycle of commercial real estate.
The Role
We're looking for a Property Accountant to handle the day-to-day accounting and financial operations across our portfolio of commercial properties.
This is a hands-on position. You'll be responsible for managing the books across multiple entities, preparing financial reports, and keeping our cash management running smoothly. You'll work directly with the President and play an important part in keeping our financial records accurate and up to date.
The right person for this role is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in a small-team environment.
What You'll Be Doing
Day-to-Day Accounting: Manage accounts payable and receivable across the portfolio. Perform monthly bank reconciliations (operating, escrow, and reserve accounts). Maintain the general ledger and post journal entries. Process tenant rent rolls, late fees, and security deposit accounting. Handle vendor payments, W-9 compliance, and annual 1099 reporting.
Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual P&L statements by property and entity. Put together financial reporting packages. Track rent escalations, percentage rent, and CPI adjustments. Handle CAM reconciliations and year-end tenant true-ups. Help prepare operating budgets and variance analyses.
Lease Administration Support: Maintain lease abstracts and track critical dates. Set up new tenants and manage financial onboarding. Coordinate on lease-related financial items as needed.
Banking & Cash Management: Monitor and reconcile cash across multiple accounts and entities. Process wire transfers, ACH payments, and intercompany transfers. Coordinate debt service, escrow requirements, and lender reporting.
Tax & Compliance Support: Work with our outside CPA firm on tax preparation. Prepare supporting schedules and workpapers. Help ensure compliance with state and local requirements.
General Operations: Look for ways to streamline workflows and improve processes. Keep financial records organized and audit-ready. Help document standard operating procedures.
What We're Looking For
Required:
3 years of accounting experience, ideally with some exposure to commercial real estate.
Comfortable managing full-cycle accounting on your own.
Familiarity with commercial lease types (NNN, gross, modified gross) and CAM reconciliations.
Proficient in QuickBooks and strong with Excel.
Experience working with multiple entities and intercompany transactions.
Solid understanding of GAAP basics as they apply to real estate.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Reliable, accurate, and able to use good judgment.
What We Offer
$65,000–$80,000 compensation depending on experience.
Monthly health insurance stipend (flexible use).
Direct working relationship with ownership—no corporate layers.
Stable, well-capitalized company with a 40 year track record.
Straightforward, low-drama work environment where good work gets noticed.
Consistent hours with a predictable schedule (no travel, no surprises outside of normal busy periods).
Work Environment
This is an on-site role based in Raleigh, NC. Standard business hours apply, with some flexibility needed around month-end close, year-end reporting, and tax season.
You'll need to be comfortable working independently while staying organized and communicative in your day-to-day work.
Pre-Employment Requirements
This position involves a high level of financial responsibility. As part of the hiring process, we'll conduct the following (in accordance with applicable laws): background check, credit check, drug screening, and employment and reference verification.
