Mission of Organization:
The Bank Policy Institute (BPI) is a nonpartisan public policy, research, and advocacy group, representing the nation’s leading banks. Our members include universal banks, regional banks, and the major foreign banks doing business in the United States. Collectively, they employ millions of Americans, make a majority of the nation’s small business loans, and serve as an engine for financial innovation and economic growth. Our staff includes economists, researchers, financial and policy analysts, government relations professionals, and attorneys, all focused on using data and analysis to shape sound policy. We distribute our research and analysis to U.S. and global regulators, members of Congress, academics, and media through academic-quality research papers, blog posts, white papers, comment letters, and Congressional testimony.


Position Summary:

We are seeking a talented communications intern who craves learning new skills and isn’t afraid to tackle big projects. As an intern, you will get to work with a variety of our staff while working on meaningful projects impacting America’s banking industry.

BPI’s Communications Team works with Washington media to create buzz-worthy earned media, paid advertising campaigns and strategic messaging for the nation’s largest banks and other financial services corporations.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work with a variety of our staff on special projects to develop innovative and strategic marketing plans that communicate BPI messaging and initiatives.
  • Research news articles and congressional transcripts for quotable excerpts that can be used to support messaging.
  • Assist in drafting print and digital content to be distributed to our members, media and the public, including building and producing email and social media communications.
  • Help drive newsletter content and coordinate the editorial process between departments.
  • Monitor web, email and social media analytics and assist with internal reporting for data-driven decision-making.
  • Assist with the ideation of a variety of graphic design collateral including social media content, reports, infographics, GIFs and multimedia products.
  • Attend Congressional hearings and D.C. events, take stock photos and additional projects to assist the Communications teams’ priorities


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Currently majoring in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Political Communications or any related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Organized, detail-oriented, able to manage deadlines, set priorities, take initiative and work diplomatically and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
  • Preferred but not required: Experience using MailChimp, WordPress, Google Analytics, TV Eyes, HTML, Adobe Express, Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign Illustrator, Photoshop and Premiere Pro)

This position is based in downtown Washington, D.C. and preferred in office days are Monday-Thursday, with a remote option on Friday. Candidates are paid an hourly minimum wage of $17.95/hour. We offer part-time and full-time (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) internships and the length of the internship is flexible, not to exceed 3 months in duration.
All applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States for BPI.  BPI will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas.
