ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT, RESEARCH ANALYST

The Bank Policy Institute (BPI) is a nonpartisan public policy, research and advocacy group representing the nation’s leading banks. Our members include universal banks, regional banks and the major foreign banks doing business in the United States. Collectively, our members employ millions of Americans, make most of the nation’s small business loans, and serve as an engine for financial innovation and economic growth. BPI staff include economists, attorneys, and analysts that leverage data and empirical analysis to shape sound public policy.  Our research products, which include academic research papers, blog posts, comment letters, and Congressional testimony, are distributed to U.S. and global financial regulators, members of Congress, academics and the media.

Position Summary:

The Research Analyst contributes to the analysis of banking, financial markets, and other economic issues conducted by BPI’s research team. This position is well suited for a candidate that was recently granted a bachelor’s degree and considering pursuing a graduate program in economics, finance, business administration, or related field. The candidate should be self-motivated, well-organized and detail-oriented, collegial and able to function under pressure and handle numerous tasks simultaneously. The successful candidate must be able to take initiative, prioritize with minimal supervision and work independently, as well as part of a team.

• Become familiar with various banking and macroeconomic data sources used by BPI researchers.
• Assist BPI researchers by collecting and analyzing data, including using econometric analysis.
• Assist with synthesizing data and research findings into memoranda and blog posts.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Proactive, self-starter who can be relied upon to take initiative and work independently, with ability to multi-task and prioritize objectives and deliverables.
• Basic knowledge of economics, finance, or banking. 
• Some familiarity with bank balance sheets and income statements. 
• Ability to carefully and accurately analyze data. 
• Experience with statistical software (e.g., Python, R, Matlab or STATA) and an interest and aptitude to advance in proficiency.
• A high level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite. 
• Solid written and oral communication skills.

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, computer science, statistics, math, business administration, or related field is required.

This is a Washington, DC-based position. The successful candidate generally will be expected to work in the DC office Monday-Thursday, with remote work option on Fridays.  In addition, employees are afforded an additional 20 days of flex/remote workdays annually.

Salary : $75,000 - $90,000
