Position Title: Accountant II

Position Summary
The Accountant II position plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless functioning of the bank’s accounting and reporting activities. This position is responsible for the operational accounting and reporting functions in a timely and accurate manner that supports strong internal controls. The Accountant II position works across departments to complete financial accounting requirements, efficiency goals, and strategic initiatives. The position also provides administrative support for the Human Resources function.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Support
- Perform daily balancing and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close activities.
- Maintain and organize accounting records, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with accounts payable activities and prepaid expenses.
- Assist in preparation of ALCO meeting materials, board reporting packages, and management reports.
- Maintain accounting schedules and reconciliations for investments, BOLI accounts, debt securities, and other balance sheet accounts.
Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Analyze financial statement fluctuations and research discrepancies.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and the board of directors.
- Assist with preparation and filing of Call Reports and FRY reports, and other regulatory reports.
- Support mark-to-market accounting processes and investment portfolio reconciliations.
- Maintain documentation supporting accounting transactions and financial reporting accuracy.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with internal accounting policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Support preparation for regulatory examinations, audits, and safety and soundness reviews.
- Review financial records and reports to identify errors, unusual fluctuations, or control concerns.
- Support internal control processes related to reconciliations, approvals, and reporting accuracy.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of financial and customer information.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to strengthen operational efficiency and risk controls.
Human Resources Support
- Provide administrative support for HR processes and employee records.
- Assist with employee communication and documenting employee onboarding/offboarding.
- Support benefit-related activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred.
- Banking or financial institution accounting experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of regulatory reporting and banking compliance requirements preferred.
- Proficiency with Cognos, Microsoft Excel and accounting/reporting systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle confidential employee information with discretion and communicate professionally.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based environment.
- Extended hours may be required during month-end, quarter-end, year-end, and audit periods.
