401(k) Advisor - Retirement Plan Services

Bank of Ann Arbor
Ann Arbor, MI Full Time
POSTED ON 5/29/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 6/26/2026
Description

Bank of Ann Arbor is seeking a driven, entrepreneurial 401(k) Advisor to build, manage, and grow a portfolio of retirement plan relationships within one of the Bank’s key strategic business lines.

This is not a maintenance role. We are looking for someone who is energized by growth, accountability, and results—someone who sees opportunity where others see status quo, and who takes ownership of outcomes.

You will serve as both a trusted advisor to plan sponsors and a business builder, delivering thoughtful, customized retirement plan solutions while helping expand the firm’s presence in the market.

At Bank of Ann Arbor, our 401(k) Advisory Group combines a high-touch, fiduciary-driven client experience with institutional-quality investment expertise and strong provider partnerships. You will operate in a collaborative environment—but with the expectations and autonomy of someone who thinks and acts like an owner.

Requirements

What You’ll Do

Own & Grow Client Relationships

  • Serve as primary relationship manager for a portfolio of retirement plan clients
  • Lead high-value review meetings covering investment performance, plan design, fees, and industry evolution
  • Deliver a proactive, solutions-oriented client experience that deepens relationships and drives retention
  • Identify and act on opportunities to expand existing relationships

Advise with Expertise & Credibility

  • Design and manage investment menus, including fund selection, monitoring, and replacement decisions
  • Provide guidance on fiduciary responsibilities, regulatory considerations, and evolving best practices
  • Translate market insights into clear, actionable recommendations for clients
  • Partner with internal investment resources to ensure consistency and rigor

Drive Business Development

  • Aggressively pursue opportunities to grow the Bank’s 401(k) advisory business
  • Build centers of influence with commercial lenders, wealth advisors, attorneys, and CPAs
  • Lead or contribute to prospect meetings, RFPs, and proposal development
  • Take ownership of a personal pipeline and outcomes—not just activity

Engage Participants

  • Conduct employee education meetings and one-on-one sessions
  • Support enrollment and engagement strategies that improve participant outcomes
  • Communicate complex financial concepts in a practical, relatable way

Operate with Precision & Innovation

  • Serve as liaison with recordkeepers and third-party providers
  • Partner across internal teams to deliver a seamless client experience
  • Continuously improve processes, tools, and deliverables
  • Leverage emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to enhance client insights, improve efficiency, and scale delivery

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or professional designation (CFA®, CIMA®, CFP®) preferred
  • Meaningful experience in retirement plan advisory, institutional consulting, or a related field
  • Proven drive to build business.
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to influence and win client confidence
  • Deep understanding of 401(k) plans, investment structures, and fiduciary standards
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills across executive and employee audiences
  • High initiative, competitiveness, and personal accountability for results
  • Collaborative mindset—but with the confidence to lead and take ownership
  • Comfort with data, technology, and emerging tools (including AI) to enhance productivity and client delivery

Why Join Bank of Ann Arbor

  • Established 401(k) advisory platform with strong market reputation
  • Opportunity to build and expand a meaningful business line
  • Direct access to leadership and decision-makers—no bureaucracy
  • Culture that values initiative, ownership, and long-term relationship building
  • Competitive compensation aligned with growth, production, and client success
  • “Big-bank capabilities without big-bank bureaucracy”
