Job Summary

CLASSIFICATION RESPONSIBILITIES: 1 . Drives District bus or van through designated routes in accordance with time schedules, picking up and discharging students; transporting students and teachers on special trips to various locations, choosing the best route and making departure and arrival time as scheduled. 2. Checks motorized equipment and fills with fuel, oil, water, battery water and air as required. 3. Makes mechanical checks to assure buses can be operated safely. 4. Cleans and washes automotive equipment; reports mechanical defects. 5. Maintains order on the bus/van and reports any problems to the appropriate administrator. 6. Uses good judgment at bus stops to protect students from other traffic while boarding or departing from the bus/van. 7. Follows District policies and maintains transportation related records as required. 8. Inspects bus/van prior to operations for safety purposes; renders first aid or emergency assistance. 10. Arranges replacements for bus/van coverage in absence of supervisor. 11. May perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements / Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. or equivalent* AND; experience closely related to the duties and responsibilities of this class. Education equivalence equals an adult education diploma or four (4) years of increasingly responsible work experience in a directly related field. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1. Possession of valid Class A Commercial Driver’s license with school bus, passenger and air brake endorsements issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles AND 2. Current Medical certificate as required AND 3. Possession of a current, or ability to obtain, Standard First Aid and CPR cards AND 4. Possession of a valid school bus driver’s certificate. 5. As a condition of employment, applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. Bangor Elementary School District is willing to work with candidates who are close to meeting the certificate, license and other requirements listed above. PHYSICAL EFFORT/ WORK CONDITIONS: Occasional (less than 25%) Ability to bend and twist, stoop, and kneel Ability to lift 50 pounds Ability to carry 40 pounds Ability to stand for extended periods of time ( less than 25 %) Able to safely operate a motor vehicle for the purpose of transporting Very Frequent (85%of the time or more) Ability to sit for long periods of time (85% or more) Ability to see for purposes of reading and observing traffic, road signs, ect. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand Ability to operate transportation equipment effectively Ability to reach and twist body in all directions required to drive a bus/van Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job. NOTE: This list of essential functions and physical requirements is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in accordance with the requirements of the job. PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: As a condition of employment the position you are applying for will require that you provide fingerprints to the local police department. The fee charged by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for the fingerprint report is the employee’s responsibility. If you should be offered this position you will be asked to sign a payroll deduction form which will authorize the District to deduct the fee charged by the DOJ from your first paycheck. As a condition of employment, applicants must pass a required pre-employment drug and alcohol test.Bangor Union Elementary School District hires only U.S. citizens and lawfully authorized alien workers.
