SBA Portfolio Manager
Banesco USA is seeking an SBA Portfolio Manager for our SBA Portfolio Managers Business Unit.
Primary Job Duties
- Ensures all assigned SBA loans 7(a) are monitored in strict accordance with the SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOP 50 10) to maintain the integrity of the government guarantee.
- Conducts comprehensive annual reviews on SBA relationships, specifically analyzing debt service coverage ratios and verifying that use of proceeds and collateral requirements remain compliant with the original SBA authorization.
- Prepares and processes SBA servicing actions requiring lender or SBA approval (e.g., collateral subordination, release of guarantors, or changes in ownership) and submits necessary requests.
- Assists in gathering data for required reporting to ensure accurate status reporting on the SBA portfolio.
- Conducts and documents required SBA site visits to verify collateral and business operations, ensuring all visit reports meet SBA audit standards.
- Monitors existing lending relationships assigned to their portfolio and completes annual, semi-annual, or quarterly reviews as required in a timely manner.
- Prepares monthly Watch List comments and quarterly Adversely Classified Reports where applicable.
- Maintains oversight of all ongoing monitoring requirements and client deliverables as well as compliance with all terms of the loan agreement including (i) Financial Reporting and Covenant Tracking, (ii) Covenant Compliance, (iii) Collateral Monitoring and Borrowing Base Analysis, and (iv) all required third party reports, investigations, and due diligence.
- Validates and analyzes reports such as Financial Statements, Borrowing Base Certificates, Collateral Field Examinations, Appraisals, Engineering Reports, etc., to verify compliance.
- Actively works on tracking tickler requirements, post-closing items, and revisiting policy exceptions to determine current status.
- Reviews and clears financial exceptions and documentation exceptions, working with the Lenders and Lending Associate(s) to clear exceptions.
- Evaluates pertinent information to determine risk rating and whether a prospect and/or existing credit is an acceptable risk.
- Thorough ongoing portfolio management detects early warning signs of deteriorating credit trends and recommends risk rating changes where applicable.
- Escalates issues to appropriate levels and develops action plan with the Commercial Portfolio Manager Team Leader, Head of Corporate Banking, Special Assets, and Chief Credit Officer.
- Partners with the Loan Officers in structuring and underwriting new relationships as well as renewals, extensions, waivers, and/or modifications of existing loans.
- Determines relationship monitoring needs while working with the Loan Officer and Underwriters during the underwriting process.
- Prepares all required financial spreads and Executive Summary and uploads all packages for credit underwriting and approval.
- Reviews and analyzes all third-party reports and includes all pertinent information in Executive Summary.
- Acts as a liaison between the customer and other departments of the bank to ensure the renewals and/or modifications are processed in an efficient and timely manner.
- Works in conjunction with Loan Operations in maintaining all required insurance policies within appropriate coverage and are up-to-date by contacting borrower, insurance agent, or respective insurance company.
- Documents borrower’s file with quarterly call memorandums in connection with lines of credit and annual inspections of real estate loans.
- Maintains a close follow-up on past due payments and maturities to avoid any past dues over 30 days.
- Ensures financial information request letter and/or renewal letter is sent to the borrower in a timely manner.
- Monitors industry trends and analyzes specific industry trend area to identify potential areas of risk in the loan portfolio.
- Responsible for completing annual training program assigned.
- Performs other functions and/or duties as assigned.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree required for consideration or the equivalent in experience.
- Experience: One (1) to three (3) years of experience in banking, preferably in Lending or Credit areas.
- SBA Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of specific experience involving SBA 7(a) loan portfolio management, servicing, or credit analysis.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Knowledge of overall Bank policies as well as credit policy and compliance regulations. Specifically requires working knowledge of SBA SOP 50 10 and related servicing requirements.
- Advanced computer skills including but not limited to proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Moody’s, nCino etc.). Experience with SBA E-Tran and SBA One platforms is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of related State and Federal banking compliance regulations and operational policies.
- Problem solving and analytical skills in order to identify problems and present them to the appropriate parties.
