What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Software Developer position at Bandelier Technologies?
The Software Developer will help design and build software that transforms data from advanced imaging systems into actionable information for commercial customers. This role is primarily focused on software development, system integration, and product development for infrastructure inspection, structural health monitoring, and drone-based analytics applications. The successful candidate will work closely with hardware engineers, scientists, and commercial partners to develop practical solutions spanning 3D reconstruction, situational awareness, and data processing pipelines.
The role will initially focus on turning Bandelier's event-based camera and 3D reconstruction technology into deployable products for infrastructure and utility customers — think bridge and grid inspection, structural monitoring, and site change-detection — where the value is repeatable, survey-relevant 3D records at drone-imagery cost and turnaround. This requires software that bridges hardware, sensors, data processing, and machine learning to create operational capabilities from emerging sensing technology.
This role sits at the intersection of software development, sensing, and applied machine learning. Successful candidates will be comfortable working across multiple layers of the stack, from sensor and hardware interfaces to data pipelines to customer-facing applications. While machine learning experience is valuable, equal emphasis is placed on strong software development practices and the ability to ship deployable systems.
Key Responsibilities
●Design, develop, and maintain software supporting 3D reconstruction, imaging, and inspection/analytics products
●Build data processing pipelines for multimodal sensor systems (event and conventional cameras), integrating heterogeneous sensing platforms
●Build customer-facing tools for data visualization, reporting, and change detection (e.g., asset inspection dashboards)
●Integrate machine learning models, software components, and third-party tools (drone platforms, GIS, asset-management systems) into a cohesive product
●Design and implement interfaces between sensing hardware, software services, and downstream analytics tools
●Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and commercial partners (utilities, inspection firms, drone operators) to translate research concepts into deployable products
●Contribute to software architecture, technical planning, and product roadmap
Preferred Experience and Education
●BS, MS, or equivalent industry experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Applied Physics, or a related field
●Strong software development skills with experience building and maintaining production applications
●Strong Python programming skills and experience in Linux environments
●Familiarity with modern development practices: version control, testing, debugging
●Experience developing user-facing applications, data visualization tools, or APIs
●Experience integrating software with hardware, sensors, or instrumentation
●Familiarity with signal processing and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, SciPy, or similar)
●Comfortable in an early-stage R&D/startup environment where requirements evolve alongside the technology
●Bonus: exposure to drone/UAV data pipelines, GIS, LiDAR, or infrastructure inspection workflows
