Hourly Rate: $26.80
The Bancroft School is seeking a dedicated Teacher Assistant to provide support to classroom Teachers in planning and implementing instruction tailored to the educational needs of assigned students. This role encourages and supports students to help them achieve the best possible educational experience. Depending on the program, the Teacher Assistant may also serve as a substitute for a One-to-One Education Program Associate or Teacher, as needed.

Assist Classroom Teacher
Assume leadership in the classroom in the teacher’s absence.
Collaborate with the lead teacher to implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and instructional activities tailored to students’ diverse learning needs.
Student Support
Provide direct assistance in both academic and non-academic activities, including instruction, behavior management, and personal care.
Classroom Management
Help maintain a positive, structured classroom environment conducive to learning.
Promote social skills development, manage student behavior, and foster a sense of community and inclusion.
Instructional Support
Reinforce lessons by working with individual students or small groups.
Adapt instructional materials as needed to support student understanding and engagement.
Data Collection & Progress Monitoring
Document student progress and behavior using designated tools.
Communicate observations to the classroom teacher and relevant staff members.
Collaboration
Work with teachers, related service providers, and the educational team to ensure effective delivery of services and support for students.
Personal Care
Assist with personal care tasks such as toileting, feeding, and mobility, according to student needs and established protocols.
Professional Development
Participate in training, workshops, and professional development activities to enhance knowledge of special education strategies and behavior management techniques.
Qualifications
Associates degree in a related field or 60 college credits required. NJDOE substitute teacher’s certification required. Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field and prior experience working with individuals with special needs preferred.
The position may require the ability to lift, assist with physical mobility, and engage in activities that require bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
