Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Tool Room Machinist specializing in manual machining. You will be responsible for machining of components and sub-assemblies required to build our standard and custom machinery. Your expertise in manual machining techniques, blueprint reading, and mechanical knowledge will ensure the highest quality standards are met. Responsibilities
- Operate manual mills, manual lathes, drill presses and other shop equipment to machine prototypes and low volume parts.
- Understands machining operations such as boring, turning, facing, slotting, milling and internal/external grinding, drilling and tapping.
- Perform precision setups that at times may be difficult and unusual requiring careful handling, blocking and the use of shims and supports to align part
- Position work on table in relation to established references by use of dial indicator or other instruments and indicate work to detect and eliminate run-out
- Determine the proper machining operation sequence, select cutting tools, and work holding fixtures
- Select speeds and feeds according to type metal and finish specifications
Requirements
- Proven experience as a manual machinist or tool room machinist with strong mechanical aptitude
- Proficiency in reading blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T standards
- Skilled in operating manual machining equipment including lathes, milling machines, grinders, drills, and welding tools
- Knowledge of CNC programming basics; familiarity with Fanuc controls is a plus but not mandatory
- Experience with CAM programming, SolidWorks CAD software, and other manufacturing technologies is highly desirable
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) accurately
- Strong understanding of tooling maintenance, setup procedures, and safety protocols in a machine shop environment
- Physical ability to lift heavy materials safely using forklifts or hand tools; willingness to adhere to safety guidelines at all times
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations related to machining tasks
