The Kohler Academy located in Mountainside, NJ is looking for a full time School Nurse to provide various health services to improve and protect the health status of students and staff members as well as to strengthen and facilitate the educational process.
Essential Responsibilities:
1.The Kohler School nurse will operate within personal license constraints in strict accordance with approved American Nurses Association Standards of School Nursing Practices, N.J. Department of Education Administrative Code and Amendments, and established Bancroft policies and procedures, provides various health services to screen, identify, assess, and address students’ healthcare needs:
In addition to performing all of the duties as defined for the School Nurse:
a) Provides health counseling and education for students, family members/guardians, and staff members;
2)Performs the following responsibilities as defined within the N.J. Department of Education Administrative Code and Amendments:
Writes and updates, at least annually, the accommodation plan including the individualized health plan required under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 for any student requiring such plans
3.Provides ongoing guidance, support and acts as a lead for the other Registered Nurses in Education:
a) Provides ongoing leadership, advice, training, and guidance to Registered Nurse(s) in Education in the performance of health services, medical activities, and nursing tasks;
This position is one of two nurse positions on the school staff.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, a certificate issued by the N.J. Department of Education, State Board of Examiners and a current and valid N.J. license are required. A minimum of one year of general nursing experience preferred working with the developmentally disabled and/or the traumatically brain injured.
Special Skills:
Knowledge of nursing/clinical operations and procedures required, as well as a knowledge of primary care principles and practices. Ability to observe, assess, and record individual medical symptoms, reactions, and progress required. Knowledge of emergency medical procedures, of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration required. Effective communication, interpersonal skills, management, and organization skills required. Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for the delivery of medical assessment and treatment required. Valid driver’s license required in incumbent’s legal name and current address with no provisional restrictions. Minimum 18 years of age required.
