Role Description This is a full-time, remote Family Law Paralegal role supporting attorneys with all aspects of family law cases. The paralegal will assist with drafting and formatting pleadings, declarations, discovery requests and responses, and settlement proposals. Daily responsibilities include managing case files, organizing and reviewing client documents, maintaining case calendars, and tracking deadlines. The role involves communicating with clients, opposing counsel, and courts in a professional and timely manner, including scheduling hearings, mediations, and depositions. The paralegal will conduct factual and legal research, prepare trial binders and exhibits, and support attorneys with hearing and trial preparation. The position requires consistent use of case management and document management systems, accurate timekeeping, and adherence to firm procedures and confidentiality standards.
Qualifications
- Strong family law knowledge, including familiarity with pleadings, discovery, motions, and court procedures in California or a similar jurisdiction.
- Proficiency with legal drafting and document preparation, including declarations, financial disclosures, discovery, and correspondence.
- Experience with case management, file organization, calendaring deadlines, and coordinating hearings, mediations, and depositions.
- Comfort with client communication, including gathering information, providing case status updates, and handling sensitive family law issues with discretion and empathy.
- Solid research and analytical skills, including ability to summarize information, organize evidence, and prepare case summaries or chronologies.
- Strong attention to detail, proofreading capability, and ability to manage multiple cases and priorities in a remote environment.
- Proficiency with legal software, word processing, spreadsheets, and electronic filing systems; experience with family-law-specific tools is a plus.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and collaborate virtually with attorneys and staff.
- Prior experience as a family law paralegal or legal assistant preferred; certification or formal paralegal education is a plus.
