District Position Description
Position Title: Elementary Guidance Counselor
Reports To: Principal
Position Open Until Filled.
Qualifications: A Master’s Degree in guidance and/or school counseling. A valid state certificate. A minimum of three years’ teaching, counseling, or other experience working with children similar in age to the position hired. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Job Goal: Lead students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
Duties:
- Adheres to and supports board policy and such guidelines;
- Is available to all students seeking guidance and counseling services;
- Implements individual and group counseling methods that are appropriate;
- Conducts career and educational planning activities;
- Participates in professional development activities promoted by the district;
- Responsible for managing student records, which includes tasks such as scanning and uploading test scores for the Gifted and Talented program and SCReady into Etrieve, affixing appropriate stickers to permanent records for Gifted and Talented and SCReady permanent records, and ensuring accurate end-of-year sticker placement on grade cards within permanent records, all while maintaining strict confidentiality;
- Accountable for delivering guidance lessons at least twice per month for each assigned grade level and class;
- Participates in student intervention meetings for assigned grades;
- Submits required reports promptly and accurately;
- Serves as the School Test Coordinator;
- Consults with students, parents/guardians, and staff to assist students with academic/career planning;
- Conducts Student Intervention Team meetings;
- Serves as LEA for IEP meetings when necessary;
- Registrations/Withdrawals;
- Updates student information in PowerSchool;
- Coordinates homebound services for assigned grades;
- Coordinates Career Day;
- Coordinates Red Ribbon Week;
- Coordinates SEL Screener 3x per year for assigned grade levels;
- Participates in threat assessments, if needed;
- Counsels students with social, emotional, or academic needs;
- Participates in required training (conferences, meetings, and webinars) as assigned;
- Performs other duties as assigned by the school principal;
General Requirements: The environmental factors and/or physical requirements include the following: Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and ability to use a keyboard.
This position requires working with a diverse group of individuals, including elementary-aged students, parents, and staff. Employees in this position may encounter stressful situation where a professional attitude will be required. Multi-tasking is essential as deadlines and frequent interruptions are common.
Terms of Employment Classification: Salary and work year to be determined by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy.
