The Opportunity

We are seeking a Peer Support Specialist to join our Opioid Outreach and Supportive Services program at CarePoint Response, Inc. (CPR). In this role, you’ll use your lived experience to provide brief crisis intervention for individuals experiencing substance use issues or overdoses. You’ll connect people to recovery programs, coordinate care, and offer support for mental health, addiction, and homelessness challenges. You'll collaborate with EMS and other community partners to reach individuals in crisis and respond in the community to support individuals wherever they need services.

What You’ll Do

• Work collaboratively with members of EMS and other community partners to provide support and resources to individuals experience substance use issues or homelessness.
• Work with individual in a substance use crisis to develop a crisis plan, provide linkage to care and introduce other crisis planning tools to the individual as needed.
• Work with all members of the team to facilitate engagement of the individual in crisis and helping them feel welcome and comfortable
• Work with individuals in crisis to assist with continuity of care by giving them mental health, addiction, peer recovery support and other needed resources.
• Build relationships with addiction, mental health and homeless outreach providers, peer recovery support and other community resources
• Perform timely and accurate documentation of all clinical and client-related information
• Maintain professional open, effective, and appropriate communication with clients, CPR staff, management, outside agencies and the public
• Empower participants to become self-advocates for their own recovery/wellness
• Maintain professional boundaries with clients, staff and other outside agencies
• Work with all clients from a strengths-based perspective, providing support and encouragement as they move forward in their recovery

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education

• Candidates must have a high school diploma, but an associate degree is preferred.
  
  

Certification

• Peer Support Specialist Certification is required, and you must have a valid driver’s license.
  
  

Experience

• Must have a minimum of two years of experience working in the field of peer recovery.1 year of supervisory or leadership experience.
• Must have knowledge of mental health and addiction resources in Baltimore City.
  
  

Physical Demands

• Moderate walking, standing, climbing stairs, and sitting required. Light lifting may be required to recover. Transportation of clients and their belongings in agency vehicles. Minimal support and assistance with client care needs.
  
  

Working Conditions

• Works as part of a Mobile Team, which provides services in the community. Visit clients in various community settings and on the streets. When in the office, work generally in well-lighted and ventilated office environment.

• Potential exposure to highly charged, stressful and emotional situations, potential exposure to aggressive encounters.
