Job Description
Plans, coordinates, leads, and participates in the provision of Assistive Technology (AT) tools and services for students with disabilities. Participates in the management and implementation of technology supports for individual students and staff to effectively meet the needs of the goals indicated on the Individual Education Program (IEP) and Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP). Ensures that all initiatives support the system-wide goals identified in the BCPS Strategic Plan. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Develop and foster positive relationships with colleagues, school staff, and families to ensure clear communication and ensure the fidelity of Assistive Technology implementation.
Communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, and supervisory staff in oral and written form.
Identify appropriate Assistive Technology tools for students utilizing evidence-based practice based on individual needs.
Provide consultation to school staff and families regarding communication and access to ensure curriculum engagement.
Provide consultation to school staff and families regarding Assistive Technology tools to support communication and access needs.
Participate in school-based teams for students with communication and Assistive Technology needs.
Demonstrate competency in the interpretation of formal and informal assessment tools across disciplines to support educational decision making.
Knowledge and expertise surrounding the Student Environment Task and Tool (SETT) Framework and other Assistive Technology decision making frameworks.
Complete oral and written reports in a clear and concise manner using recommended formats and timelines for progress monitoring and implementation support.
Maintain accurate student records with relevant data to document student progress.
Provide support for development and implementation of appropriate goals for IEPs and IFSPs that are directly related to documented student needs.
Implement research-based intervention techniques, differentiated instructional strategies, and assistive technology to meet students’ needs and learning styles.
Participate in ongoing professional development related to the field.
Performs Other Duties As Required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an appropriate degree in Special Education or a related services field (Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology). Three years of professional experience.Experience in an educational setting preferred.
Licenses And Certificates
Possession of a Maryland Educator Professional Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment.
OR
Possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator Professional License appropriate to the area of assignment.
OR
Possession of a current license issued by the Maryland Department of Health or the appropriate Board.
Must hold and maintain a valid class C driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of educational assistive technology (AT) services to children, birth to 21, and their families.Knowledge of the principles and practices of AT and Special Education. Demonstration of strong oral and written communication skills.Demonstration of strong human relations, communication, and organizational skills.Demonstration of strong computer/technology skills.
Knowledge of and skill in data analysis.
Physical And Environmental Conditions
The work of this class is generally performed both in school and office environments. Travel to schools throughout Baltimore County is required. Work includes the operation of office equipment, including personal computers, and occasional limited physical activities.
