A vacancy exists in the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Solid Waste Management.
A list of eligible applicants will be established based on the examination as outlined below.
Current and future vacancies occurring in any Office or Department of Baltimore County General Government may be filled from the list of eligible applicants.

Examples of Duties
Under close supervision, collects money; verifies amount received. Maintains records for reconciliation, performs scale operations, and administrative tasks at yard waste, recycling, and solid waste facilities for the Baltimore County Bureau of Solid Waste.
Examples of Essential Duties
- Interacts with customers using the landfill on a daily basis.
- Screens waste in accordance with established procedures as vehicles drive onto the scale or into the Residents Drop-Off Center.
- Opens scales and weighs vehicles and creates transactions.
- Verifies county residency and compliance with other county regulations for all weighing and disposal activities.
- Maintains various logs on disposal activities.
- Receives cash, checks, and credit cards for payment of a variety of taxes, fees, and fines.
- Verifies amount received and issues receipt.
- Issues cash or check upon presentation of required authorizations.
- Receives, files, and distributes scale house items in accordance with established procedure.
- Records all transactions on a daily basis.
- Counts money and compares the amount to the amount of receipts issued.
- Prepares money for deposit or transfer.
- Operates adding machines and computers using scale house software.
- Knowledge and enforcement of departmental rules, regulations and policies
- Maintains equipment and supplies.
- May perform light typing.
- Assists in the setup of scales and databases at other sites.

Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized high school.
PLUS
Two years' experience in cashiering or accounting with direct responsibility for handling money.
(Additional experience in accounting or cashiering may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. Additional education in accounting may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Entry Level)
- Knowledge of cash accounting methods, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of office procedures.
- Ability to use adding machines and computers.
- Ability to perform mathematical computations.
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records of financial transactions.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The work of this classification entails frequent operation of office equipment requiring the use of coordinative and manipulative skills. Some positions may involve frequent standing. The work requires exposure to potentially hazardous materials and conditions; including adverse weather conditions.
Employment Background Investigation
Applicants selected for an appointment to a position in Baltimore County must successfully complete an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to a criminal background, education, and fingerprint check.

Salary
Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
