What are the responsibilities and job description for the President/Senior Executive position at Baltimore Council on Foreign Affairs?
The Baltimore Council of Foreign Affairs is soliciting applications for the position of President. The President is the chief executive officer of the Council and reports to the Council’s Board of Trustees. The President is responsible for the programs of the Council and leads its engagement with the greater Baltimore area community.
The BCFA was founded in 1980 by a group of Baltimore civic leaders who believed it was important for local business and the citizenry at large to have access to current, high-level information on foreign affairs. Over the past 46 years, the Council has hosted a wide array of speakers from the U.S. and foreign countries, including senior U.S. Government officials, foreign ambassadors to the United States, leading scholars of foreign affairs, and business and political leaders. The Council also sponsors educational programs for young people. Today, the Council has over 450 active members. Traditionally, Council programs were held in person at the World Trade Center in Baltimore. Currently, we hold BCFA programs in person and stream live at local colleges and universities. Some of our programs are virtual-only.
The future President of the Council will be a proven leader with knowledge in international affairs, drawing on experience in government, the military, academia, or business. The successful candidate will have demonstrated an ability to lead an organization, most importantly, ensuring its fiscal soundness and future viability. In this regard, the President will lead the Council as it takes advantage of new technologies to expand its reach and membership base, and will also be comfortable interacting with the local business community, political, and civic leaders.
