PURPOSE  

Manufacturing at Baltimore Aircoil Company (BAC) is done by people, using materials, machines, tools, and equipment, in a high-risk work environment.  BAC is on a journey to achieve EHS excellence globally, regionally, and at each manufacturing site. 

As a member of the Plant Leadership Team, Dayton’s EHS Manager is responsible for ensuring the organization’s continued compliance with EHS regulations, policies, and standards while ensuring the organization has effective EHS management programs to manage risk and ensure a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace.  Candidates for this position must be capable of leading and managing EHS programs, building relationships at all levels of the organization, and promoting a work environment that values open communication, positive networking, and continuous EHS improvement.   

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Develop, implement, and maintain site EHS standards, processes, and programs, including (but not limited to) machine safeguarding, hazardous energy control, fall protection, crane safety, personal protective equipment, fire prevention, emergency response, electrical safety, powered industrial trucks, ergonomics, confined space entry, hazardous material handling, industrial hygiene, contractor safety, hot work, behavior-based safety, risk management, job hazards assessment, waste management, stormwater pollution prevention, and air and wastewater permit compliance. 
  • Lead the site Incident management program which includes (but is not limited to) incident reporting, investigation, determination and tracking of corrective actions, communication of investigation results, and monitoring of the program for continuous improvement.   
  • Develop and maintain an EHS awareness and training program to ensure employees are qualified and capable of working safely and in compliance with applicable regulations.  
  • Conduct routine inspections to assess equipment, hazards, and environmental conditions.  Communicate findings and corrective actions to the appropriate parties and track to completion. 
  • Monitor and report the status of key EHS performance indicators to the plant leadership team.  Recommend actions and/or strategies to address any performance gaps or address emerging needs.     
  • Collaborate with regional and global EHS leaders to share best practices and identify opportunities for improvement. 
  • Lead site efforts related to environmental sustainability including data collection, reporting, and achieving continuous improvements (e.g., reduction is water usage, waste generation, and greenhouse gas emissions).   Ensure accurate and timely reporting of the monthly sustainability KPI’s.  Proactively communicate improvement actions/projects with other facility sustainability coordinators.     
  • Review new and/or modified equipment, processes, products, raw materials, or services to identify hazards, any adverse environmental effects, and required controls.  Obtain new and/or modified environmental permits or registrations, as necessary.   
  • Complete required environmental reports including (but not limited to) SARA 312/313 reports, air emission inventories, biennial hazardous waste reports, discharge monitoring reports, and pollution prevention reports. 
  • Complete required environmental monitoring (e.g., storm water and/or wastewater discharge monitoring, waste profiling). 
  • Develop systems to ensure site compliance with legal and other applicable EHS requirements (e.g., BAC and/or Amsted).   
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with local and state regulatory officials.  
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the General Manager, Global Manager of EHS, or an Operations Executive. 
  • Acquire a good working knowledge of site operations while serving as a contributing member of the Site Leadership Team. 

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS 

  • B.S. degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated EHS experience in a heavy-manufacturing environment with a minimum of 2 years of leadership experience. 
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulatory requirements for critical safety programs such as hazardous energy control, fall prevention, confined space, electrical safety, powered industrial trucks, crane safety, material handling, fall prevention, hearing and respiratory protection, machine safeguarding, hazards communication and OSHA recordkeeping.   
  • Knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements such as air, wastewater, stormwater, and hazardous waste management (i.e., permitting, reporting, and compliance). 
  • Ability to lead teams, manage programs, and projects. 
  • Ability to analyze workload, assign priorities, maintain focus, and achieve results. 
  • Ability to maintain a positive outlook, manage stress, and work constructively under pressure. 
  • Demonstrated ability to establish trust, relationships, and create a climate that fosters personal investment and excellence. 
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize when a decision needs to be made, act in a timely manner, and communicate decisions effectively while closing the loop to ensure decisions are acted upon. 
  • Demonstrated ability to employ analytical techniques and conduct root cause analysis. 
  • Effective communication skills (i.e., written and oral). 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

 

NATURE & SCOPE 

This position reports to the Plant Manager with a dotted line responsibility to the Corporate Global EHS Manager.  The position also works closely with the site employees and leaders in a hands-on capacity related to continuous improvement, corrective actions and problem solving.  This position may have up to one direct report. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS 

The working conditions are those typical of a manufacturing environment.  The regular working hours are Monday through Friday - dayshift but the role requires availability for all shifts and weekends for periodic meetings, trainings, or incident response.  Travel may be up to 10%.  Additionally, the position will require an individual to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, work in a variety of positions to perform inspection and training activities while working in both an office and manufacturing (plant) environment.
