Senior Sheet Metal CNC/Press Brake Technician

Step into a senior fabrication role where precision meets leadership

As a senior, hourly contributor in our Sheet Metal Department, you will own the efficient start-up, steady production, and clean shut-down of two primary fabrication machines. You’ll be the go-to expert on the floor—leading by example, mentoring junior mechanics, and keeping quality, safety, and throughput at the highest levels. What you'll tackle day-to-day

• Champion personal and team safety; follow every rule and use required PPE—always.
• Operate two major sheet metal machines (e.g., Laser, CNC, Press Brake) to maximize productivity and quality.
• Complete and sign off on daily/weekly primary maintenance procedure checklists.
• Enforce quality and process standards; drive scrap reduction targets.
• Coach, train, and mentor junior mechanics; direct work and set expectations.
• Step in to lead when the Station Lead or Team Leader is away.
• Understand, communicate, and interpret department metrics for junior teammates; update/post metrics as assigned.
• Accurately handle paperwork and online data entry.
• Document processes for knowledge capture and future training.
• Maintain 5S standards and a clean, organized workstation.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and problem-solving projects.
• Contribute ideas for safety enhancements across the department.
• Hold the line on world-class quality; teach precise quality practices.
• Work sustainably—reduce waste, maximize recycling, and minimize energy and water use.
• Support innovation—turn original ideas into better methods, systems, or services.
• Perform other duties as assigned by plant leadership.

Leadership, scope, and influence

You’ll report to a Team Leader, Station Leader, or another designated supervisor. Expect to provide hands-on leadership and mentoring to junior mechanics and be ready to fill leadership roles as needed. As a subject matter expert, you may be asked to support regional project teams and act as an influencer across the department.

Skills that set you up for success

• Proven proficiency running two major fabrication machines, including Laser, CNC, and Press Brake.
• Experience leading small groups and guiding performance.
• Strong written communication—clear process documentation and professional email/memo writing.
• Effective verbal communication with customers and coworkers; technically accurate information sharing.
• Expertise with the sheet metal FAST program.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings/blueprints.
• Deep product knowledge of BAC models and parts.
• Solid math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractional calculations, and fraction-to-decimal conversions.
• Comfort with measuring tools: tape measure, micrometer, protractor.
• Working knowledge of basic maintenance and troubleshooting.
• At least 1 year of experience as a Sheet Metal Fabricator.
• Familiarity with continuous improvement tools; able to support root cause analysis for quality issues.
• Awareness of hazards related to cranes, fixtures, and safety-sensitive areas.
• Proven commitment to safety and adherence to standards.
• Computer skills in MS Excel and MS Access, including updating data and generating metrics in pre-formatted sheets.
• Flexibility to rotate across multiple department stations and adapt to change.
• Experience working on cross-functional teams to meet plant objectives.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.The working environment includes lifting up to 50lbs. Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time. Additional activities include: walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes. Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected. Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
